Back to Back Clean Sheets

Andy Monkhouse named almost the same starting line-up that beat North Shields last week, the one change seeing Rafa Ferreira taking the place of the injured Des Amponsah. It had been raining on and off all day and inevitably it was a wet start.

Ferreira tried his luck in the second minute with a powerful shot but keeper Foden took it well despite the conditions. Adam Porritt then put Omar Sanyang away down the left flank but Ferreira was fouled as he collected the ball on the edge of the box; Theo Hudson’s free kick hit the wall for a corner.

On 19 minutes Porritt put a brilliant ball over the top for Hudson but his cross again went for a corner.

Three minutes later Josh Mazfari was in action holding on well to a low drive. Consett came again almost immediately bur Barlow’s free kick over the Tadcaster wall was an easy take for the Taddy shot stopper.

With the interval ten minutes away, a Consett corner resulted in a melee in the six-yard box but again Mazfari came to the rescue . Then as The Brewers launched another attack Hudson looked to have been fouled in the area but the referee saw nothing untoward.

Goal less at half time was a fair reflection of play. Both sides had chances but could not make them count in the final third.

The second half had hardly got underway before Hudson succumbed to an injury and was replaced by Scott Smith.

The hosts were nevertheless soon on the attack and on 50 minutes a slick interchange between Dyer and Ferreira resulted in a pull back to Sanyang but his shot was blocked.

Milburn was yellow carded as he bundled Lewis Hey to the ground but Smith’s teasing free kick was headed away for a corner. Beaston collected and found Nathan Dyer who thumped the ball just over the cross bar – the closest so far for the Brewers in 56 minutes.

Porritt then sent the ball over the top for Sanyang but the first touch was a little wide and the subsequent shot well blocked.

Hey made way for Jack Johnson on 65 minutes as Albion continued to force the issue, tempers were raised but Tad could not find that final touch. A long-range effort from Dyer, with 16 minutes left on the clock, was wide whilst two minutes later Slocombe received a yellow card for elbowing Scott Smith.

On 81 minutes Sanyang set up a half volley for Johnson but again it was agonisingly wide. Dyer then flashed the ball across the face of the goal but there was nobody there for the tap in. Johnson has a half chance but Foden is equal to it

With four minutes added time to come Mariuzs Bratkowski was on for Ferreira for a last throw of the dice but despite having had much the better of the second half, the Brewers had to settle for just one point from the team standing in tenth position in the league.

Nevertheless, back to back clean sheets tell you their own story!
