Tadcaster Suffer Back-to-Back Defeats

Having not had a home game in almost two months the Brewers were on the road yet again as they fell to defeat at Yorkshire Amateurs. With an enforced two-week break, goals from Stevie Crawford and the captain Adam Priestley were the difference.

Harrison Davison-Hale returned in goal for Tadcaster who also welcomed back Freddie Sass to the starting line-up after suspension kept him out of the Stockton game, Dan Hartley making way. Charlie Marshall was handed his first start of the season replacing the skipper Simon Russell.

Davison-Hale was the busier of the two goalkeepers all afternoon and in the opening ten minutes saved well to take a dangerous low cross after Corey Roper’s interception

A little after a quarter of an hour, the hosts took the lead. A free kick caused problems in the Tad box and Crawford fired a deflected effort passed Davison-Hale to put Yorkshire Amateur ahead. 1-0.

At the mid-way point of the half Tadcaster started to get on the ball more and cause the hosts defence problems as Roper fired a looping deflected volley narrowly wide, the first effort of the game for Deacey’s side.

Just after half an hour Davison-Hale produced another top class save, getting down well to his left to divert the ball over from a powerful strike and keeping the score to just one.

Shortly after Tad hit the bar; Donald Chimalilo collected a short corner and whipped a brilliant effort towards goal from outside the box but the strike cannoned off the bar and away. In the 40th minute, buoyed by the previous effort, Tadcaster put together a good move ending in Sass picking out Marshall in the box but the forward’s shot was well charged down as it looked to be heading into the corner.

On the stroke of half time the Brewers conceded a penalty; up stepped Ross Duggan but the powerfully hit shot was saved by Davison-Hale. However, the hosts kept it alive and crossed to the back post for Priestley to tap in despite protests from the Tad players for offside. 2-0.

Manager Deacey made a change at the break with Rinor Ejupi on for Des Amponsah as the Brewers looked to get more of a hold on proceedings.

Less than ten minutes into the second half Chimalilo whistled an effort narrowly wide of the far post. Hartley came on to replace Jack Crook and in the 57th minute Romario Vieira dinked a free kick into the box for Kieran Burton to direct beyond the keeper but the flag went up to rule the goal out.

With little over 20 minutes to go Duggan managed to break away; 1-on-1 with Davison-Hale but the striker was denied brilliantly by the Tad number one. That sparked Tadcaster into their third and final change with new signing Essa N’Dow on for Roper. He added support up front for Eddie Church and was a real handful for the hosts back line, showing good strength and acting as a focal point.

The Brewers finished the game well and created a handful of chances in the final ten plus the six additional minutes.

In the 83rd minute Vieira had a fierce strike from distance tipped around the post by the keeper as the ball threatened to nestle in the bottom corner. He again tried his luck a couple of minutes later but the deflected effort was comfortably held.

In the middle of Tadcaster’s best spell of the game Burton produced an outstanding last-ditch tackle to prevent Yorkshire Amateur netting a third.

The Brewers created three more good chances in stoppage time; first Marshall got on the end of a deep delivery from Hartley but could not catch the volley cleanly and the ball bounced through to the keeper. Burton was next to have an effort on target redirecting Vieira’s cross but the attempt lacked the necessary power to cause too many problems.
The final chance was Church’s first of the afternoon; Chimalilo did brilliantly to run at his man, beating him and picking out Church whose flicked header landed in the keeper’s hands

A disappointing defeat and a tough day in Leeds but Tadcaster are back in action on Saturday 11th as they welcome the unbeaten Liversedge to the Global Stadium, kick off 3pm.

Davison-Hale, Vieira, Omolokun, Burton, Sass, Roper(N’Dow), Crook(Hartley), Marshall, Chimalilo, Amponsah (Ejupi), Church.

Subs not used: Hughes, Russell.
