Brewers Earn Well Fought Point at In-Form Cleethorpes Town.

Following the 1-3 win over Yorkshire Amateurs in the West Riding County Cup on Wednesday, John Deacey again rang the changes as Tad returned to league action. Skipper Simon Russell, Corey Roper, Freddie Sass and Donald Chimalilo all came into the starting eleven replacing Fraser Papprill, Jordan Deacey, Charlie Marshall and Dan Hartley.

The first 15 minutes were evenly matched with neither side managing to create any clear openings although the hosts did force a couple of corners, but the resultant headers were no trouble for Ally Hughes in the Tad goal.

Just after the quarter of an hour mark Eddie Church created a half chance for Tadcaster; fed by a deft flick from Russell on Hughes’ kick, he drifted onto the right wing and crossed to Chimalilo, but the pass had a little too much weight on it to reach its target.
Two minutes later Tad worked another sighting of goal; Des Amponsah played a cross field pass for Chimalilo who cut inside from the left before firing off target from outside the box.

The hosts had a few more corners headed wide, again never troubling Hughes, as Cleethorpes started to exert more pressure on the Brewers. Thirty minutes in, Cleethorpes created their best chance - a pass in behind the defence on the right edge of the box put Alex Flett away but his cross was well taken by Hughes and held in front of oncoming attackers.

Three minutes later Tadcaster were twice denied by the Cleethorpes keeper. Firstly, Chimalilo received a short corner from Roper, the winger shifted onto his left foot, fired goalwards but the keeper parried with his legs. The rebound fell for Roper who drove his effort at goal, but the keeper recovered to push over.

Less than ten minutes before the break Church who had been having a real battle with Paul Walker all half long, managed to get some space twenty-five yards out but his left footed effort was comfortably taken by the keeper.

Tad had the better of the chances in the first half but overall, a very even battle saw both sides go in level despite the Brewers having had to contend with the wind and the sun in their faces.

Cleethorpes came out quickly in the second half. Hughes was called upon in the 49th minute to save Tim Lowe’s header at the near post and from the resulting corner Romario Vieira blocked and cleared a header off the line. The next chance of the game went the way of the hosts on the hour mark, again Hughes stood up well to deny a header at the back post to keep the score level.

Cleethorpes had had the better of the first fifteen minutes of the second half but still Deacey’s men were well in the game, more than matching the hosts for fight and battle particularly in the middle of the pitch.

With a little over fifteen minutes to play, Taddy made their first change of the game; Russell was replaced by Jordan Deacey who had made an impact in the midweek win over Yorkshire Amateurs. That substitution was quickly followed by Charlie Marshall’s introduction taking over from Amponsah.

In the 82nd minute Sass who had driven forward from left back unopposed continued in-field and let fly with his weaker right foot just clearing the bar. The final change for Tad ended Church’s afternoon as on in his place came Rinor Ejupi to see out the final five minutes.

Tadcaster finished the game the stronger of the two sides with the subs involved in everything created in the latter stages.

Vieira was almost gifted by the keeper who failed to take a cross under pressure from the Tad man, however the angle was against the full back who could not keep the ball in play. On the Stoke of the 90th minute Jack Crook who had worked hard in the middle of the park all game long had a great chance eight yards out; Vieira and Deacey linked up well on the right with the former whipping in a great cross which dropped for Crook, but he could not get a clean connection and the keeper gratefully claimed.

Sass saw one final effort blocked just inside the box as Tad launched a late surge, but Cleethorpes dealt with it. There was a red card for Laurence McKay in stoppage time but that would be all, and the points were shared.

A good point on the road for Deacey’s men who are now unbeaten in three in the league since the new manager arrived. A solid display against a fourth placed Cleethorpes keeps the momentum going and a very welcome first clean sheet of the campaign.

Next up for the Brewers is another away trip to Brighouse Town on Saturday the 13th of November, kick off 3pm.

Hughes, Vieira, Omolokun, Burton, Sass, Roper, Russell (Deacey), Crook, Amponsah (Marshall), Church (Ejupi), Chimalilo.

Subs not used: Hartley
