Simon Collins named the same starting eleven for the third match running as his side looked to solidify a place in the Evo-Stik East play-offs.
There was a return for James Hodges and Jake Buckle on the bench whilst Jack Walters and Jake Rose were ruled out through injury.

On a piercingly bright but breeze afternoon in Yorkshire, Taddy started on the front foot with on-loan winger Luke Porritt causing problems from the off. His powerful pace is a danger to any full-back and he was sent galloping in behind on 6 minutes after a lovely flick around the corner from Joe Lumsden. As Porritt was forced wide, he crossed to Casey Stewart at the back post but he lost his footing at the crucial moment.

It was a frenetic opening to the contest with both sides bellowing at one another trying to gain an early advantage. There was a spot of controversy on 8 minutes too as Toby Hilliard went to ground in the box wanting a penalty which angered the Albion men as they felt it was clear simulation. Rightly so it appeared too as Miller pulled out of the challenge and referee James Unwin agreed it wasn’t a spot kick but clearly didn’t feel it was a booking worthy dive as play was allowed to go on.

Anger quickly turned to delight for the Brewers though who broke the deadlock on 10 minutes. Neat interplay between Ellis Barkworth and Casey Stewart down the right-hand side before Jonathan Fairweather failed to clear the cross allowing lethal marksman Joe Lumsden to slide home from close range. Sweeping low underneath keeper Dan Swan, goal number 21 for the season for Lumsden.

Wisbech’s first sighting at goal arrived six minutes later as many red shirts swarmed forward on the break, a dinked cross found Michael Frew who went for the spectacular, but volleyed wide of the mark. This was a rare moment of danger for Taddy as they quickly regained their dominance as Pete Davidson went close to adding a second. The Yorkshire Pirlo headed Stewart’s corner goalwards only for Dan Swan to impressively push wide of his left-hand upright.

Simon Collins’ side were in full-flow in the brisk wind as a second goal seemed only a matter of time. A cute clip in behind from Corey Roper released Lumsden in behind but he was denied by the onrushing Dan Swan, the loose ball dropped to Aiden Savory who just couldn’t adjust his feet accordingly to scramble over the line.

Tempers soon flared once again when Jack Keeble went flying into Casey Stewart in an incredibly dangerous challenge which saw the Town man leave the ground. However referee James Unwin allowed play to continue. This clearly disgruntled the Brewers as both sides clashed in the next phase of play. Corey Roper stormed into two full-blooded 50-50’s before an altercation broke out on the floor seeing many pile into a pushing match ending with the Albion midfielder being cautioned.

With calm finally restoring Lumsden was threatening again as Luke Porritt curled in behind setting the striker racing into the penalty area, but his attempted nutmegs was just cut out by the recovering Sam Gaughran.

Wisbech Town Manager Gary Setchell clearly wanted a response from his side in the second half as he made two substitutions at the break sending in Thembelani Nkala and Sam Murphy. Sticking with substitutions, Taddy were forced into making their first change three minutes into the half as Corey Roper picked up a knock, this allowed Jason Mycoe to come on for his first appearance since November.

The visitors’ hopes of a comeback were dealt a huge blow a minute later when Paddy Miller scored a contender for goal of the season. Standing over a free-kick in a central area 30 yards from goal, the experienced defender struck a thunderbolt which screamed into the top corner leaving Dan Swan with absolutely no chance in the Town goal. This was one of the superbly struck left-footed efforts that Julian Dicks, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Teemu Taino would have been proud of.

Following on from the worldie of a free-kick, Taddy were looking to put the game to bed completely eliminating any chance of a Wisbech comeback. Casey Stewart showed great pace to blow past Oliver Gale latching onto Ellis Barkworth’s ball but Joe Lumsden saw his scuffed shot blocked.

Taddy let the game slip out of their grasp ever so slightly allowing their opponents to push further up the field. The second half was far less controlled by the home side as Wisbech huffed and puffed without really troubling Michael Ingham. Nevertheless Harry Coates and Joe Lumsden did both fire headers on target but couldn’t beat Swan in the Town goal.

It took Wisbech 87 minutes to carve out a clear cut chance on goal and they really should have found the net as Toby Hilliard did brilliantly to burst past two yellow shirts and break through the Taddy back-line before screwing comfortably wide of Ingham’s goal. Unfortunately the match ended on a sour note as both sides clashed again on the touchline after another altercation which culminated with Town boss Gary Setchell being dismissed.
