It’s déjà vu for the Brewers as for the second season running, there’s play-off permutations on the final day.
Aiden Savory’s injury time equaliser at Pickering on Bank Holiday Monday coupled with Sheffield FC failing to beat Belper means that Taddy can still finish in the top five come 5pm on Saturday.
Simon Collins’ men sit three points behind Sheffield with a two better goal difference, but before any other results can be checked, Albion have to beat mid-table Lincoln. If this is achieved then all eyes will be on Sheffield as they have a very tricky away trip to third place Brighouse Town. However, a point is enough for the World’s Oldest Football Club to solidify their place in the Evo-Stik East’s play-offs.
Due to the league restructuring, only five out of the seven step 4 sides that win the play-offs will actually be promoted though and with Taddy’s point per game ratio down the bottom of the pile, it is highly unlikely that even if they did go all the way that they would go up into the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
United on the other hand are playing for pride at this stage sitting 13th in the table and no matter what the result is here, that’s where they will finish the 2018/19 campaign. ‘The Whites’ were looking like play-off contenders themselves pre-Christmas though sitting in second place for a considerable amount of time, however just three victories since the turn of the year has seen them slip down into the middle of the pack.
When the two sides met back in December, second half goals from Joe Lumsden and Aiden Savory ensured the Brewers returned to Yorkshire with all three points whilst extending their winning run.
Team News: Ellis Barkworth (ankle) and Corey Roper (ankle) unlikely to be risked. Jason Mycoe (back) a doubt. Joe Lumsden serves the final game of his suspension. Josh Barrett likely to keep his place in defence.
