Mick O'Connell sets out Tadcaster Albion plans after Appointment

TADCASTER Albion’s newly-appointed manager Mick O’Connell believes that the new management team at the So Trak Stadium are the ‘right people to get Tadcaster back to where they need to be’.

O’Connell joined Tadcaster after former manager Andy Monkhouse tendered his resignation with the Brewers, following relegation to the Northern Counties Eastern League Premier division.

The newly-appointed manager departed Harrogate Railway after back-to-back play-off finishes, and is eager to reinstate positivity at Tadcaster.

“We’re more than up for the challenge and we believe that we are the right people to get Tadcaster back to where they need to be.” O’Connell told the Press.

“It’s not going to be a small task, we’re going to pick things up and get the club back to where it needs to be.

There’s not been a lot of positivity around the club for the past 18 months, but we’re working tirelessly to try and get that back, to get people back on board, to get people back through the gate and most importantly, enjoy watching Tadcaster again.

“Short-term we just want to stabilise the club because they have been in freefall for the past couple of seasons, so for the short-term we want to stabilise things and bring positivity back around the club.

“We’re going to have a play style that people can enjoy watching, by getting the ball down and playing football.

“For the long-term it’s about being consistent in results - ideally by the back end of next season we’re aiming to be in and around the play-offs. That’s where we want to be.

“My staff have come with me from Harrogate Railway because we know how we all work together, we trust each other and we all believe in the same sort of philosophy.

“Players-wise, there have been a lot of players that have been in touch with me wanting to come in. I’ve met several players and spoken to several players - I will speak to some more this week.

"We want to get a good strong squad sorted by the middle of June, so they can all have a pre-season together. If we get pre-season done properly then we have a good structure so every single player knows their job come the first game of the season.”

O’Connell also had a message for Tadcaster supporters after enduring a difficult campaign, and has ensured that the club will give their all.

“We want them to come in the gate and enjoy watching Tadcaster again.

“One thing I can guarantee is that the bare minimum that we’re going to ask of our players is that they give their maximum every single week. They’ll run, they’ll tackle and they’ll put their bodies on the line.

“When we’ve got the ball, we’ll spread it and we’ll play entertaining football. We like to attack and we like to create chances, we want to get people off of their seats.

“Really it’s about getting people back through the gate and getting that positivity back into the club.

“I guarantee you that there won’t be a lack of trying from us.”
