A second half brace from Omar Sanyang, either side of a Luke Hinsley header, earned Tadcaster their first win since April last year.
Before kick-off both sides observed a minute’s silence for Gary Burton, the father of former Brewer Kieran Burton, who sadly passed away last week - our thoughts are with his family at this time.
On the pitch there was very little between the two sides; the opening ten minutes passed without any clear-cut chances for either team. The closest Tad came was through Des Amponsah on a pass from Raj Palit - the forward tried to work space but was crowded out by the visiting defence,
In the 14th minute Stephen Brogan of Sheffield hit a dangerous free kick which whipped wide of the post. In the 19th minute Jack Johnson saw a shot saved by the keeper after a good move from Tadcaster on the edge of the Sheffield penalty area but the flag was up on the near side.
Palit’s corner was met by Amponsah at the near post but he did not catch the strike cleanly and the keeper gathered in the 25th minute.
Little after the half hour mark Sheffield created the clearest chance of the evening but Mazfari got down excellently to his left with a strong hand to hook the ball to safety. From the resulting corner the visitors saw a free header go wide as Sheffield created two clear opportunities in quick succession.
As the game neared the half way mark Sheffield had a fortuitous chance; the ball fell kindly for Basile Zottos who, from inside the box, sliced his shot wide.
The final action of the first half saw Luke Sharry fire a speculative effort from range which wasn’t too far away from troubling Gary Stevens in the away goal.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first with both sides battling without managing to force the issue.
Theo Hudson sustained an injury and was replaced in the 62nd minute by Sanyang. The substitute was quickly involved a minute after entering the fray as he slid Lewis Hey in behind, but the chipped shot bounced just wide of the far post.
Tadcaster broke the deadlock in the 76th minute; Amponsah and Palit linked up to good effect on the left before the latter put Sanyang away - he shifted the ball onto his right foot and expertly picked out the bottom corner with a low drive to put Taddy ahead, 1-0.
Shortly after taking the lead Andy Monkhouse turned to the bench again, bringing on new signing, Rafeal Ferreira, for Lewis Hey.
Another Brogan free kick saw Sheffield come close again, this time Mazfari was forced into a save, tipping the ball over. From the resulting corner, former Brewer Hinsley, managed to get free and head in unmarked to level, 1-1.
Four minutes after being pegged back, Sanyang got on the scoresheet again; Palit pulled the strings driving forward and sliding the ball in behind for Omar, who timed his run to perfection before rounding the goalkeeper and remaining composed, slotting the ball into the empty net, 2-1.
The drama was still not over; in the aftermath of the goal, Sheffield defender Joshua Burns was shown a second yellow card for dissent and the visitors were reduced to ten men.
Then came almost nine minutes of injury time but Tadcaster stood firm and held on to the precious lead that earned them their first win of the season.
A massive three points for the Brewers who now have a platform to build on with Carlton Town up next on Saturday at the SoTrak Stadium, kick off 3pm.
