Ten-Man Tadcaster Ensure League Survival after Battle with Fellow Strugglers.

Goals from Jack Carr and Mark Ferguson either side of the break earned Tadcaster their third straight league win for the first time this season. The Brewers remained unchanged for the third successive league match.

In the opening four minutes Joe West lifted a golden chance over the bar from two yards after Rod Orlando Young whipped a dangerous ball in behind the Tad defence. Harry Fisk needed the Physio but thankfully was able to continue.

In the ninth minute Tadcaster pushed forward for the first time in the afternoon, Eddie Church forced a corner which then caused problems in the box as the visitors failed to clear but Mark Ferguson was judged to have fouled his man and Frickley escaped.

Twelve minutes in Church produced a Di Canio esque volley which sailed over the bar.

The opening 20 minutes saw Tad dominate the ball, particularly the two centre halves Kieran Burton and Dan Hartley with Frickley content, sitting in their own half, remaining resolute and tough to break down.

In the 23rd minute the Brewers finally broke through and took the lead. Jack Carr, the scorer, racing onto the end of Corey Roper’s ball over the top, beating the keeper to the ball and lifting the finish into the far corner. 1- 0.

However, just two minutes later Carr was shown a straight red card for a lunge on the half way line right in front of the substitute benches.

Having been reduced to ten men the impetus was with the visitors who then began building pressure and throwing everything they could at the Tad backline who stood firm and battled like they have on numerous occasions this campaign.

In the 34th minute Kieran Burton made an important clearance in the six-yard box before Frickley crossed back into the middle for Bradley Wells who crashed a header against the face of the crossbar.

Three minutes later Harry Fisk produced a vital save at the back post managing to deny Wells with his legs, keeping the lead for Tadcaster.

In stoppage time before the interval, the visitors launched a counter attack; Burton left with two attackers to contend with stood tall and did brilliantly to cut out Orlando Young’s pass.

Tadcaster maintained their slender lead at the break despite Frickley’s onslaught.

As expected, Frickley continued to launch attack after attack as the second half began. Fisk again made a smart stop to deny Orlando Young who looked dangerous on the left.
Fisk was on hand to alleviate some of the pressure on the Tad defence in the 57th minute confidently claiming a cross. The Brewers had been dealing with Frickley’s mounting corners effectively throughout the game and Fisk importantly palmed one away in the 66th minute with Tad refusing to loosen their grip on the lead.

In the 69th minute, tireless work from Ferguson helped him steal the ball before finding Jordan Deacey who was awarded a free kick after he was hacked down on the edge of the box. Up stepped Ferguson, a la Stockton in the previous game at the Global Stadium, to drill a low ball into the far corner leaving the keeper no chance and seemingly putting the game to bed.

A minute later, looking for a killer third, Church battled on the left before delivering a tantalising cross which was put behind by West ahead of serious pressure from a lurking Ferguson. In the 76th minute Ferguson found himself in on goal after a through ball from Des Amposah. It looked like the forward was going to net his brace and his ninth of the campaign but Aiden Smith denied him with a smart save.

A minute later Amponsah himself was baring down on goal after Deacey fed the winger; he beat one man but delayed his shot before being crowded out. In the 79th minute Roper tried his luck with an audacious chip from distance but the effort lacked the power to trouble the keeper who quickly retreated to catch the ball.

With six minutes to go the “Blues” were knocking on the door once more but Fisk stayed big to smother Wells shot, maintaining his third clean sheet since joining Taddy earlier this year.

In stoppage time at the end of the game Ferguson raced through and found himself one-on-one but the Tadcaster man was left frustrated as he was again denied by Smith

The final piece of action summed up a staunch defensive performance from Tadcaster; Burton threw himself in front of the ball to block before emerging upright with it despite an attempt to foul him. His defensive partner Dan Hartley was equally as solid all afternoon, a clean sheet and three points, a good way to mark his 21st birthday which was last Thursday.

Another huge three points for the Brewers ensuring their safety and taking off the pressure for the final two games of the season, starting on Monday away at Ossett United, kick off at 3pm, followed next Saturday at home to Yorkshire Amateurs, again at 3.00 pm
