The Brewers captured their first three points on home soil with a 2-0 win over Albion Sports thanks to a debut goal from Elliott Andrew upon his return to the club from Frickley and another brilliant free kick goal for Curtis Senior.
Tadcaster were boosted by the return Olly Green to the starting eleven after recovering from his head injury but were without Spencer Harris serving his first of a two-match suspension. The club also welcomed back attacking midfielder Oli Metcalfe who made nineteen appearances last season including the County Cup final before joining Pontefract.
A first goal upon his return to the club did not take long for Andrew as Olly Green won a battle in the box before seeing his cross deflected into the path of the striker who smashed his effort into the roof of the net giving Tadcaster an early lead. 1 - 0.
After 20 minutes Lewis Binns was the first player into the book after a midfield skirmish. Four minutes later the visitors saw their first chance of the game with Sumaili Cisse dispossessing Dan Davy in the final third but his attempt to cut in was foiled by Binns.
With ten minutes to go in the half, Sports carried some momentum after a free kick was given against Ryan Gothard on the right wing with the resulting effort turned away for a corner, Aran Basi then heading the cross over the bar.
Into added time of the first half, a pass was deflected into the path of oncoming Albion attacker Lewis Waddington who went one on one with Harry Stead, but the keeper bravely kept ball out with the rebound cleared by Binns.
Tadcaster started the half on the front foot with Senior having a free kick from distance turned over the bar, and Gothard sending a volley over the bar from the resulting corner.
Skipper Charlie Owen had a chance beating his man with his initial touch but having broken into the box, had with no room to shoot, his pass rolling across the box and cleared away.
With 15 minutes to play Albion were pushing to get back into the game with substitute Junior Nasihunu on the end of a pass at the back post with a stinging effort from close range well turned away by Stead. Minutes later substitute Dylan Wilkinson saw his free kick from the left side whipped towards goal but again well saved by the Tadcaster shot stopper.
Heading into added time Tadcaster on the break were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box with both players and fans suggesting a penalty. Nevertheless , dead ball specialist Curtis Senior stood over it in much the same spot as he has done against Knaresborough the previous week and curled his shot low into the far corner giving keeper Harrison Smith no chance 2 - 0 .
A first league win for Tadcaster since Parkgate on July 28th means the Brewers climb to 17th in the table. Their next fixture is away against Campion on Wednesday night in the NCEL League Cup ( 7.45 KO) whilst next Saturday they travel to Penistone Church which is always a close encounter – Kick Off 3.00 pm.
