Leeds Edge Tight Battle

Manager Ryan Qualter took the opportunity to give as many of the squad as possible an outing and for the first time, supporters were able to view the pink and light blue away kit.

Leeds front man Oliver Pickles curled a dangerous free kick on just three minutes, but Ally Hughes saved at the second attempt. Taddy had to wait for ten minutes before the first corner after good work from Rob Guilfoyle, but Curtis Senior’s cross lacked height and was easily cleared. The trialist playing in the number 10 shirt launched a powerful shot moments later but it skimmed over the bar.

Play was stopped in the twelfth minute when Senior was clearly in considerable pain and in need of the physio – he was eventually carried to the dugout, the player unable to put any weight on one of his legs.

On the quarter hour Leeds number 10 Devon Brockie went just wide after a good run down the right flank from Jacob Render, but on 23 minutes, the visitors took the lead when Pickles curled a free kick from just beyond the eighteen yard line into the corner of the net. 0 – 1.

With Leeds dictating play, Hughes was at his best on the half hour to deny Brockie, the Leeds number 10 showing his strength in the box, whilst Aaron Pilkington produced a well-timed sliding challenge minutes later to again foil Brockie. Charlie Owen rose highest to clear the dangerous corner.

Having ridden the storm, and with half time beckoning, Albion were looking for the equaliser. On thirty-nine minutes the trialist slid Spencer Harris in and his shot looked on its way before Howson cleared the ball off the line. Seconds later the trialists shot was spilled by keeper Rory Mahady but there was nobody there for the tap in.

The last action of the half fell to Leeds when Lewis Pirie unleashed a powerful shot from close range but at an impossible angle - the ball going out for a thrown in!

The second half began with more than half the squad different from the starting line-up.

On 50 minutes the home side were level; a penetrating long ball out of defence was headed down for Harris to feed it through to Okoro on the eighteen-yard line who instinctively lobbed the advancing Mahady. 1 – 1.

On 61 minutes Ward’s header was saved by Mahady who then put Render away, but Pilkington saved the day with a goal line clearance. At the other end Green looked to be through but for a strong interception by Mahady. On 70 minutes Green had another chance but with three defenders on him, could not get the shot away.

With fifteen minutes left Sub, Bailey Wilson, put Dan Davy down the right flank – his cross found Green but grounded, his shot flicked off the post.

On eighty minutes Hughes again denied the advancing Pirie, but the Taddy shot stopper could do nothing when Coban Bird, having carried the ball along the eighteen-yard line unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top near side corner.1 – 2.

A terrific match ended with just a single goals difference – a good result for the Brewers and a chance for Ryan Qualter to see more of his squad in action.

Next Tuesday Taddy are at home to newly promoted Wombwell Town KO 7.45 pm whilst on Saturday 16th they travel to Penistone Church for another league match Kick off 3.00 pm.
