Brewers Start New Year with Defeat at Home to Yorkshire rivals Brighouse Town.

A Jack Wilson brace either side of a Jack Boyle free kick earned the visitors the three points in new manager Andy Monkhouse’s first game after taking the reins at the So Trak stadium.
There was a welcome return for Luke Hinsley to the starting eleven and Dan Hartley was again given the armband.

Within the opening ten minutes Brighouse created the first chance of the afternoon; Laurence Sorhaindo scuffed a shot wide, but as the ball fortuitously fell for the striker he failed to hit the target. Shortly after Sorhaindo was forced off through injury and was replaced by Jack Normanton.

The substitute was denied in the 17th minute by Max Culverwell, the stopper saved at his near post after Normanton was through from a cut back.

Tadcaster began to grow into the game and in the 23rd minute Theo Hudson drove into the box before his shot was charged down; the Brewers kept the move alive as Nat Crofts picked out Nathan Dyer who suffered the same fate, his shot blocked inside the 18-yard box.

The hosts came again in the 31st minute; T’Nique Fishley drove forward carrying the ball through the Brighouse half and into the box, but his low cross was dived on by Jamie Hassall .

Tad survived a scare in the 33rd minute as Culverwell produced a brilliant save diving to his left to deny Boyle’s effort. From the resulting corner, Tadcaster cleared off the line, despite Brighouse claims that the ball had gone in and appeals for a penalty - Tad survived and the score remained level.

Nevertheless on 37 minutes Brighouse took the lead with Wilson netting his first of the day - a pass in behind put the winger away as he beat Culverwell to the ball finishing coolly into the net, 0-1.

In the 42nd minute the visitors doubled their advantage; Boyle hit a perfect free kick from around 25-yards out which beat Culverwell to his right, 0-2.

In stoppage time at the end of the first half Hinsley had his first sighter; the ball sat up for the forward but he could not get the required connection with the keeper stranded in no man’s land.

Brighouse were fast out of the blocks in the second half adding their third in the 51st minute, Wilson scoring his second after a clever one-two with Boyle and a finish in off the far post.0 - 3

In the 62nd minute Wilson almost scored his hattrick, his goal bound effort hooked away brilliantly by Tad captain Hartley.

Culverwell was next to deny Wilson, the keeper stayed big at his near post to save again.

Tadcaster created a couple of late chances. Hudson hit a free kick wide of the upright from around 25-yards out but the hosts could not find a consolation goal. The final chance of the game came in the 90th minute; Croft delivered a dangerous free kick, the visitors initially cleared but only as far as Hartley who headed straight at Hassall.

Tadcaster now have a week to prepare for their first game of the new year on the road with a trip to Cleethorpes coming next Saturday, kick off at 3pm.
