Grim Afternoon after defeat at home to Grimsby Borough.

Following John Deacey’s departure in the week, the new joint managers Craig Ogilvie and Neil Sibson were in the dugout for the first time at the So-Trak Stadium.

There were a number of changes to the starting line-up ; Harry Fisk returned from injury, and there were recalls to the starting eleven for James Beaston, Nathan Dyer and Corey Roper. Roy Fogarty was handed his debut after signing during the week from Belper Town.

Tadcaster almost led in the first minute when Jack Carr chased a long ball, beat the onrushing keeper to it, but was off target. That, however, despite the Brewers having the better of the opening exchanges, was very much the only chance of the first ten minutes.

On the quarter of an hour mark the visitors took the lead with their first foray of the match: Adam Drury delivered a free kick from wide on the left wing, his cross was met by Callum Lovett who had a free header in the centre of the box giving Fisk no chance 0- 1

Two minutes later it was almost two for Grimsby - a close-range volley came back off the bar as Tad survived falling further behind.

Nevertheless with the game heading toward the half hour mark there was very little between the two sides.

Tadcaster had their first attempt on target in the 31st minute when Roper’s free kick was headed back into the middle by Beaston but Nathan Curtis flicked his header straight at the keeper. Fogarty had his first sighting of goal in the 41st minute but having made room on the edge of the box his powerful strike was blocked.

The hosts had two more efforts in the closing stages of the first half; Beaston saw a deflected header wide before T’nique Fishley headed over from Dyer’s corner.

With Jordan Deacey on for Curtis, Tadcaster resumed after the break looking for the elusive equaliser but on 52 minutes Grimsby won a penalty as Drury was impeded just inside the 18-yard box. - Caine Winfarrah slotting the ball into the bottom corner. 0 - 2.

On the hour mark, Fogarty blasted a free kick on target but Lait saved at the second attempt. Carr then almost immediately headed over from Beaston’s long throw. Corey Roper was booked on 63 minutes and then substituted for Jack Crook moments later.

Neither keeper had been busy throughout the match; however, Fisk was quick off his line to deny Luis Adlard who drove from midfield into the box in the 77th minute.

On 80 minutes Grant’s deep corner was headed back across the area by Carr but Fishley nodded over. Carr’s neat lob saw the ball in the net with six minutes left but he was penalised for offside.

In the 90th minute Tadcaster were awarded a penalty and an opportunity to halve the deficit. Crook cleverly back heeled for Dyer who drove into the box before being fouled; Fogarty’s shot, however, was well taken by Lait diving to his right.

The penalty miss capped off another frustrating afternoon for the Brewers who are back on the road next Saturday with a trip to Carlton, kick off 3pm.
