Two goals in the closing minutes sealed the result, whilst Parkgate's draw at Barton leaves the Brewers a point adrift of safety. Tadcaster named a slightly changed line-up with defender Sam Pashley making his debut after joining the club from Campion this week alongside Charlie Ward who made his first start after appearing off the bench in each of their last five matches.
The game got off to a quick start after two minutes courtesy of Noah Kiwomya on the end of a deep cross from Curtis Senior but he could not get enough on it and it was well saved by Fielding. Olly Green had a chance almost immediately arriving at the back post but was only able to turn it into the keeper’s gloves.
Tadcaster kept the pressure on and with seven minutes played Charlie Owen’s deep cross found Alex Clark whose strike beat the Retford shot stopper but was miraculously cleared off the line to keep the game level.
Retford’s first chance came just after the 20-minute mark after Aaron Sennett-Nielson sprung away from Senior, eventually getting the ball to Alex Wonham who lashed his effort just past the post.
On the half hour mark a Tadcaster corner went short to Oli Metcalfe, and whilst attempting to play the ball into the area, it came off the arm of Retford’s Stephen Brogan, with the penalty shouts waved away by the referee.
Two minutes later Retford broke through the middle of the field; Spencer Harris was hauled to the ground by Retford’s Liam Bennett, but with no foul given, the ball wriggled its way through to Ahmed Tahar who played a one - two and nodded the return into the net to give Retford a controversial lead. 0 - 1.
The visitors almost doubled their lead two minutes later with a one on one with Harry Stead who saved the shot before debutant Pashley slid the ball round the post to force a corner.
Five minutes into the second half Tadcaster crafted their best chance of the game after Ward picked up the ball in the midfield and played an incisive pass through to Green who broke into the box but dragged his effort wide of the far post.
A series of bookings slowed the game down in the second half, the first of which was handed to Wonham for dragging down his man, followed by Brogan just after the hour mark. With 20 minutes to play it was Albion’s turn to pick up their first after Harris lunged in late on Tahar and then substitute Oli Norman and Iren Wilson were both booked for a scuffle.
With three minutes to play, Retford broke down the left wing through substitute Matt Overton with his cross running all the way through before eventually falling to fellow substitute Bernard Nsiah who lashed his effort from close range into the net to make it 0-2.
Into added time, with Tadcaster committing players forward, a wayward pass was intercepted by Nsiah breaking away from his man into the final third and playing in Krzysztof Jarosz whose well placed effort gave Stead no chance 0 - 3.
The result leaves Tadcaster in 19th place, winless in their last four games ,ahead of their next match away to top of the league Dearne & District on Saturday afternoon. KO 3.00 pm
