York born and bred in 1991, Ryan Qualter began his senior footballing career when, having played for Yorkshire schoolboys, he signed a two-year scholarship with York City. That eventually lead to a season and a half with Tadcaster between 2010 -2012 . Albion finished fourth in their first season in the NCEL Premier Division and won the NCEL President’s Cup, beating Farsley AFC 5-1 in the final.
Ryan is the elder of two footballing brothers – Conor needs no introduction to Taddy fans having played for us throughout the 2023/24 season. Both are central defenders.
Ryan moved to Ossett Town in January 2012 and went on to captain them at just twenty-one years of age before John Deacey signed him for Conference North (now National North) Bradford Park Avenue for the next two seasons. It was Ryan’s first involvement in the second tier of the non-league system and he would go on to play over two hundred games at that level.
A move to Shaw Lane followed in July 2016 where he was part of the team that won promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division before the club withdrew from senior football in 2018.
In January 2018 he moved south for 18 months with Boston United again back to level 2 during which time he appeared 59 times for the Pilgrims. From there it was onto Alfreton Town in the same league for the 2019 – 2020 season clocking up another 32 games.
During the following campaign Ryan was back in the Northern Premier again, this time with Matlock Town where he stayed for 30 months before a loan to Scarborough Athletic at the start of 2023 for whom he signed during the summer recess. The move from Matlock, where he was their Captain, resulted from difficulties attending the training nights which he felt was unfair to other members of the squad – he was very sad that his stay with The Gladiators had to end – “ it left a lump in my throat”!
He left Scarborough mid-way during the 2023-24 season back to the NPL but this time with Buxton where for the first time he took on the additional role of assistant manager as well.
Last season he started out at FC United, again as a player and assistant manager, but quickly took the opportunity to move back to Ossett in a dual role capacity although after 21 appearances had to retire from playing on medical advice.
The vacancy at Taddy has given Ryan the chance to step up to the top job of Manager.
“ I have learnt so much working alongside two great managers in my previous roles but now I believe it’s time to for me to take that step and start my managerial journey at a club that is very close to my heart.”

You are most welcome Ryan!
