Taddy Seal Victory at the Seel

Warm sunny conditions prevailed at Seel Park nestling beneath panoramic views of Saddleworth Moor. The pitch was in excellent condition as Tadcaster took to the field to battle the Lilywhites who at the start of play had a 100% home record.

Jake Day had a sniff at goal in the sixth minute with a lukewarm penalty shout as he was edged off the ball and Donald Chimalilo was in battling mode as he shrugged off a fierce tackle from Downey to win a corner. Ioan Evans opened up the defence for Day to have another early look at goal but he was just off side

Chimalilo found John Lufudu on the overlap but his cross from the by-line was a little too hard. On 21 minutes The Brewers were awarded a free kick following a foul on Lebrun Mbeka – Jack Walters found Andy Milne in space but his cross into the crowded six-yard area was cleared.

With Taddy starting to edge play the opening goal duly arrived on 22 minutes; Evans put a peach of a ball out of defence to Chimalilo who in turn switched it to Day on the overlap , the big man side - footing into the corner of the net . 0 -1

On 25 minutes Taddy double the advantage with a solo effort from Kevin Santos; picking up the ball on the left flank he dribbled his way to the far side by-line and from a seemingly impossible angle smashed the ball beyond keeper Ollerenshaw. 0 – 2

The Lilywhites had their first corner on the half hour mark - it came back to Baillie but Michael Ingham was more than equal to the eventual cross. It was in fact the Tad shot stopper who laid the foundation to the third goal when he sent Lufudu on his was down the right – he laid it off to Chimalilo who from 25 yards out, saw Ollerenshaw marginally off his line, and produced a sublime chip which the keeper could nothing with as it sailed into the back of the net. 0 – 3

After a much-needed drinks break the home side steadied and Downey’s long ball saw Uchegbulam charging into the Taddy box, but a timely interception from Andy Milne quelled the danger. With 10 minutes left before the interval, Day nodded fractionally over after a good link up between Milne and Walters.

Mbeka took a knock in added time requiring the physio, then almost Immediately the Lilywhites had a chance but Ingham produced a reaction save to palm Marshall’s header over the bar. Uchegbulam cleared the woodwork having worked his way into the box before referee Bradley brought the half to an end

Jake Rose was on for Alex Wyles for the start of the second half, the mid fielder having tweaked a muscle. The Mossley men were clearly re invigorated following the half time talk and came at their visitors with waves of attacks. Ingham did well saving on the line from close range as the Lilywhites signalled their intent

On 51 minutes they hit the woodwork twice in the same attack. Marshall unleashed a thunderbolt which rattled the cross bar and from the rebound Baillie smashed it onto the upright – the fingertips of Ingham doubtless stung in the process! A minute later The Brewers had to thank Walters for a clearance at the near post kicking the ball away whilst laying in the ground.

Santos almost got Day away on 57 minutes but that was the exception as Taddy soaked up the pressure. On the hour, Marshall was again foiled by the right hand of Ingham saving low from a long-range effort.

All was not well with Kevin Santos who needed the physio on 68 minutes. It was impossible to say if he had taken a knock or was simply exhausted from the incessant running in high temperatures. Curtis Woodhouse wasted no time in bringing on Kain Rogerson to take over whilst all the players benefitted from another 2-minute break for water.

Uchegbulam was till causing problems down the right flank but Milne was ready to intervene with 15 minutes left as the winger skipped passed both Rogerson and Walters. Morgan tried to lob Ingham but the keeper chested the ball to safety

Goal number four nearly arrived on 80 minutes when Day almost demolished the far post – such was the power of the shot. His second goal quickly followed nevertheless - on 82 he was through for a one on one with Ollerenshaw and chipped him perfectly. 0 – 4

Substitute Dipo Oladsun produced the run of the day as he battled passed four defenders but the final shot was off target. Day cleared the bar in the final minute

It ended four away goals to the good- a tremendous display by the Brewers which sees them up to third in the Northern Premier North West Division. After a traumatic week, it was just what the Doctor ordered!
