Tadcaster Albion beat Barton Town 1-0 after Noah Kiwomya’s strike from 25 yards found the net with less than five minutes to play. Tadcaster welcomed Thierry Eastwood back to the starting line-up for the first time since sustaining an injury on September 5th against Lancaster City, Adam Tweed retained his place in midfield after his debut last time out in defeat away at Penistone.
The teams were evenly matched through the first few minutes with the first chance of the game dropping to Barton after a corner leaked out to the edge of the box and Craig King’s strike was forced away by Stead. After 17 minutes Tadcaster fashioned their first opportunity after a corner curled in by Curtis Senior dropped to Elliott Andrew who got his shot away from close range but Joseph Cracknell in the Barton net was equal to it.
Cracknell went from defender to provider just six minutes later as his dropkick found the run of Joe Wood splitting the defence and turning his effort on target with Stead forcing it over the bar. Just before the half an hour mark Charlie Owen was sent to the sinbin for dissent leaving Tadcaster a man down for ten minutes, Barton were only able to fashion one chance with the advantage through King sending an effort from range over the bar. Both teams went into the break at 0-0 with not much to separate the two.
A cagey start to the second half saw the first chance come just after the hour mark through Grant Tait who whipped a free-kick to Stead’s left which was well saved round the post.
With 13 minutes to play, the first booking of the game was given Barton’s way after Joel Shephard caught Noah Kiwomya after he got round him, shortly after Daniel Davy managed to get a curling effort away from the edge of the area but it went just wide.
Ryan Gothard picked up a booking for a tussle in midfield, minutes after Eastwood pulled up after making a stretching challenge to stop a Barton attack and had to be substituted off.
With just a minute of the 90 left to play, a long ball from Davy found the run of substitute Des Okoro who cushioned it into the feet of fellow substitute Kiwomya who struck an effort from outside the area that nestled into the top left corner giving The Brewers a late winner. Into added time Charlie Ward was cautioned for a foul stopping an attack.
The win leaves Tadcaster 2 points clear of the relegation zone in 18th ahead of an away game with promotion hopefuls Bottesford Town on Tuesday evening.
