The Brewers welcome Horbury Town (Wakefield area) to Taddy on Tuesday evening for our latest league game. The games are coming fast as it's only a few days since we went down 2-1 at Penistone Church. Disappointing not to get something out of the game, but we need to remember we still have 3 wins from 4 games played, so a positive result on Tuesday evening would make for a terrific start to the season.

Horbury Town were promoted to our league in April as they ended their NCEL Division one campaign as Champions with 95 points from their 42 games played. They are our third opponents in recent weeks who have had just 3 seasons in the NCEL, the previous ones being Wombwell Town and Beverley Town. Until 2022, Horbury Town played in the West Yorkshire league.

Last season our paths crossed on two occasions with games at Horbury Town in up games. Back in September, The home team had a 1-0 win in the NCEL League Cup, whilst 2 months later, The Brewers made a return trip and came out on top with a 4-1 victory in the West Riding County Cup. Horbury Town have had 3 games so far in this campaign and have drawn all 3 games. Their 2-2 draw at home to Barton Town at the weekend saw their first goals scored and conceded this season. In this game, they came back from 2-0 down. They went out of the F.A. Cup at the first attempt with a 4-0 defeat away at Wombwell Town.

There are 9 midweek games being played in the NCEL Premier, so the league table will soon be starting to take shape. By the end of August, we will have a fair idea of what's what. Tuesday's game gives us another exciting prospect for the team as they look to build on their excellent start to the season. See you there.
