
Tadcaster were made to rue missed chances and were beaten 2-0 away from home at Horbury Town thanks to goals from Joel Fern and Joe Angell.
Tadcaster were again without Olly Green due to a head injury in the Keighley match, however, he was present with the squad, and it is hoped will be OK for Saturday. The game also saw Miguel Cassama return to the side as a 78th minute substitute after being injured back in August.
The opening chance of the game did not take long; in the first minute it fell Tadcaster’s way with Noah Kiwomya’s effort forcing a corner and Oli Norman’s resulting cross finding Spencer Harris who flicked wide .
With 22 minutes on the clock and with Tadcaster controlling the game, Horbury had their first chance after a long free kick glided to the back post and was turned on target but was well saved by Harry Stead.
Five minutes later Horbury were given a throw in on the left side; the ball fell to George Whittaker whose shot rolled through to Fern who slotted it past Stead to take the lead. 1 – 0.
On 33 minutes Roberts broke away at pace from Harris with his vicious strike from a tight angle slamming the woodwork.
The first chance of the second half went Horbury’s way with Cameron Paul running through unmarked, but his shot whistled past the near post.
The Brewers kept up the pressure to find an equaliser and with almost 20 minutes to go Norman had Tadcaster’s best chance of the game ,controlling the ball at close range, but his effort was well saved by keeper Paul Day .
Two minutes later Tadcaster had a double chance to get back into the game with a Horbury defender almost turning the ball into his own net and from the following corner Kiwomya saw his overhead kick deflected wide. Harris had a chance from distance just before the 80-minute mark with his well struck half volley just going wide.
On 82 minutes a Horbury attack resulted in a free kick decision on the edge of the area - Horbury captain Joe Angell hit it under the wall giving Stead no chance as the ball rolled into the right-hand corner. 2 – 0.
Tadcaster’s final chance of the game fell to substitute Harry Croft who beat the keeper to a long ball, but his rushed chance was off target.
On Saturday Albion Sports visit The Young Guns Arena Kick Off 3.00 pm. After a quiet start to the season, they now sit in tenth position in the league with 16 points from thirteen games.
