Another Defeat but Brewers Buoyed by Hat-Trick Hero Jack Carr

The Brewers fall to defeat despite a Jack Carr hat-trick in a goal fest at The Green Energy Sports Ground.

Following the midweek defeat to Macclesfield FC Tadcaster were back on the road as they returned to league action facing Hebburn for the second time in two weeks after the 1-1 draw at the So Trak Stadium.

John Deacey welcomed Ben Bottomley back on a one-month loan from Doncaster Rovers following a previous loan spell last season. The keeper went straight into the starting eleven with Hull City loanee Harry Fisk missing through injury.

The hosts made a bright start; in the fifth minute they broke from a Tadcaster free kick, driving forward then feeding the ball wide to Oliver Martin who cut in from the left just outside the box before bending his shot into the far corner, 1-0.

In the seventh minute Hebburn almost had a second but for Bottomley’s save denying Liam Murray - at full stretch, the keeper got down to his left to tip wide. The Hornets were then given a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 8th minute; a powerful shot was blocked by Chris Howarth, but the ball struck his arm and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Amar Purewal who blazed over the bar.

On the quarter of an hour mark The Brewers managed their first opening of the afternoon; Mark Ferguson was pulled down as he drove toward the penalty area, Jordan Deacey delivered the free kick onto the head of Jack Johnson but the defender failed to keep his effort down.

In the 24th minute Hebburn netted their second. Martin again the scorer with an almost identical goal, cutting in from the left and bending the ball into the far corner, 2-0.

In the 25th minute another Deacey free kick caused problems for Hebburn as T’nique Fishley got on the end of the cross but could not direct his header on goal.

The hosts scored their third in the 28th minute; a delivery from Daniel Groves on the right picked out Purewal who saw his effort denied by Bottomley but the ball fell kindly for Sean Reid who tapped into an empty net from inside the six-yard box, 3-0.

Ten minutes later Tadcaster were forced into making a substitution; Ferguson was unable to continue after picking up a groin injury but Steve Smith came on in his place and was immediately involved - Nathan Curtis played a defence splitting ball in behind, the substitute delivered right across the face of goal and Jack Carr volleyed home from close range 3-1.

Hebburn restored their three-goal advantage quickly after conceding, and in the 41st minute Purewal finished a cross from the left from Martin putting Hebburn comfortably ahead at the break, 4-1.

Half -time brought about a second substitution for the Brewers, with Fishley replaced by Jack Crook.

A minute into the second half Cody Cromack picked out Curtis on the right edge of the box; the winger fired powerfully from inside the box but the keeper held at his near post.

Hebburn’s advantage grew further in the 52nd minute; Purewal scored his second poking the ball beyond Bottomley from Reid’s accurate pass after the hosts had kept the ball alive in the Tadcaster penalty area, 5-1.

Little after the hour mark Tad made their third and final change as Josh Grant made way for Charlie Jebson-King.

In the 69th minute Tad pulled another goal back. Crook played a clever outside of the boot pass which set Carr free - the forward drove into the box, held his man off before confidently slotting the ball into the corner, 5-2.

Carr completed his hat-trick four minutes later. Another good ball in behind, this time from Deacey, put the striker away as he emphatically smashed his left footed effort beyond Shaun Newbrook. 5-3.

Substitute Jebson-King almost put Carr in again in the 76th minute as the visitors continued to benefit from his willingness to run in behind. A hurried clearance, however, prevented Tad getting in again.

The final chance of the game fell Tadcaster’s way. A Deacey corner found Crook in the centre of the box but the midfielder’s header bounced wide of the upright.

The strong Hebburn first half made a Tadcaster comeback too tough an ask. However, another clinical display from Jack Carr was a real positive - his first hat-trick for the club takes him to six goals for the season.

Next up for the Brewers is a return to the “SoTrak” stadium as they welcome bottom club Grimsby Borough on Saturday 24th September, kick off 3pm.
