We are pleased to announce the arrival of 6’ 5” Dec McGivern.
The 28-year-old centre back came through the Bradford City Youth Programme but was released by the club having attained his BTECH with three distinctions. He had by that time captained the under 16’s and 18’s as well as the reserves.
With the rising cost of university fees in the UK, he opted to move to the USA to pursue his aim to obtain a degree in business management whilst continuing with his football career. A native of Huddersfield, he won a scholarship to study at the Notre Dame College in Ohio where he obtained an MBA in Finance whilst playing for their soccer team, the Falcons.
Having settled in Cleveland he went on to play for Cleveland SC in the National Premier Soccer League and also got involved on the coaching side of the game but after seven years away, the pull of being with his large family in Yorkshire proved too much to resist.
In mid-2019 he signed for Runcorn Linnets, co members of the NPL North West with us.
During the Covid pandemic, he retrained and became a mortgage advisor, simultaneously signing for Ossett United. Feeling the need for a new challenge, he asked his team mates for their opinion on who were the best mangers for whom to play and that lead to a meeting with John Deacey
"John Deacey has given me a big opportunity and I want to repay the trust he has put in me. He has big ambitions for Tadcaster and I am excited at the prospect. I have played at Taddy and like the club, it's facilities and a quality pitch. I just want to kick on for the new season”
Welcome Dec – great to have you with us
