Tadcaster were well beaten 4-0 by Carlisle City who currently play in the Northern League Division One, which is also at step five. The Brewers are still without several injured players but on paper the team looked strong.

The game started well for Tadcaster with the first chance coming through captain Charlie Owen whose effort was well saved by Carlisle’s Aaran Taylor. However, with just six minutes played Harry Croft sustained a bad cut above his right eye which stopped the game for some minutes but, duly bandaged, the striker carried on.

With 21 minutes played Carlisle had really come into the game. An effort from a corner was saved by Harry Stead forcing a second try which was swung in and although again well saved by Stead, the rebound fell fortuitously for striker Josh Palmer who snuck the ball into the net for Carlisle’s first of the afternoon. 1 – 0.

Tadcaster saw two chances straight after the resulting kick off with Olly Green’s pass from the right finding Croft whose attempt was well saved and then a minute later Green once again sent in a cross , this time finding Owen whose effort was turned up and over the crossbar by Taylor.

On 27 minutes a long ball from Carlisle found Adam Gordon who took advantage of a miscommunication at the back, to nod the ball onto Palmer who cushioned a headed effort over the oncoming Stead to give Carlisle a second just before the half hour. 2 – 0.

After six minutes of the second half Carlisle snatched the first opportunity with Jordan Irving capitalising on a misplaced back pass which put him one on one with Stead who was unable to prevent his well-placed effort from finding the net for a third.3 – 0.

With fifteen left to play Tadcaster substitute Daniel Brookes got on the end of an inch perfect ball from Dez Okoro for the Brewers best chance of the day but his strike was turned away for a corner.

On 79 minutes Carlisle substitute Robert McCartney beat Spencer Harris to a stray ball breaking away into the final third and lofting the ball over the oncoming Stead for the fourth. 4 – 0.

Tadcaster bow out of the competition a stage earlier than last season but on the day, Carlisle fully deserved their victory and we wish them well in the third round.

The next game at the Young Guns Arena is on Tuesday night in the league against Pickering Town, Kick Off 7.45 pm. Then next Saturday we travel to Keighley for another league match KO 3.00 pm.
