Brewers Come from Behind to Progress to Third Round

Tadcaster Albion overcame conceding first in a 3-2 win over Campion thanks to goals from Harry Croft, Oli Metcalfe( first goal for Oli since returning to the club) and Elliott Andrew. Tadcaster were without centre back and assistant manager Spencer Harris serving the second of his two-game suspension with Harry Croft taking his place at the back.

A lively start to the game saw Tadcaster get an opportunity with six minutes on the clock as Olly Green dispossessed his man on the edge of the area, sweeping a low cross into the box where Andrew was able to lift the ball over keeper Luke Wilson, who was just able to recover to tip it over the bar.

A few minutes later Campion carried momentum with a well worked attack being narrowly volleyed over the bar by Sonny Whittingham. On their following attack Campion were able to recover the ball in midfield and break through the line with Harry Stead rushing out and the attacker putting his effort wide.

At the twenty minute mark, a Campion throw-in found Whittingham stretching to flick it into the path of Ewan Gregson who drove forward and cut onto his left before drilling an accurate effort into the bottom left corner to put the home team ahead.1 – 0.

Tadcaster started pushing for the equaliser just moments after the restart with Green peeling away from his marker again and finding Andrew in the box with his effort going over. This was again followed up by Green beating his man and finding Owen whose attempt was well turned away by Wilson for a corner: The result was an excellent delivery from Curtis Senior which found Croft, powering his header past the keeper equalising the game for Tadcaster on 25 minutes. 1 – 1.

As the half hour mark approached, Senior whipped in another corner with Metcalfe getting enough on it to glance it over the grounded keeper to put Tadcaster 1 - 2 ahead.

With two minutes to go until half time, a ball over the top from Owen found Ed Campbell whose cut back was deflected inches wide of the goal . Green then teed up Owen for the last action of the half, but the ball was lofted high.

The first chance of the second half fell Campions way with hesitant defending at the back giving an opportunity for Shay Muirhead who was unable to get his effort on target with it sailing over the bar.

Almost on the hour, Croft launched, a long ball over to Green who’s probing run saw him brought down by Favour Omoruyi in the box with the referee pointing to the penalty spot and Omoruyi picking up the games first booking, Elliot Andrew stepped up with his initial effort saved by Wilson but he reacted first to hammer the ball into the right hand side and increase Tadcaster’s lead to 1 - 3.

Heading into the final two minutes of the game Campion were on the attack with a ball sent over the top to substitute Ben Grech-Brooksbank who floated an inch perfect ball over Stead and into the net to make it 3-2. He almost completed the comeback less than a minute later after breaking into the box on a tight angle, but his effort was well saved by Stead.

Max Dickinson was penalised with a booking for a rash challenge on Tadcaster debutant Charlie Ward as the game drifted into its final seconds.

The result means Tadcaster progress to the third round in the Northern Counties East League Cup with their next opponents unknown at this stage . However, they return to league action against Penistone away from home on Saturday kick off as usual 3.00 pm.
