Manager Moves On After Gruelling Season

We regret to announce that Andy Monkhouse has tendered his resignation from the club.
After a gruelling four months doing all he could to stave off relegation he feels that the break is needed.

He joined us in January 2020 as a player in central midfield and was an instant success displaying consummate skill and calmness. After a spell as head coach at Pontefract Collieries he returned to Tadcaster in September 2021 to help Steve Waide , our manager at the time, and then when John Deacey took over, was appointed as Assistant manager. Together, they steered the Brewers away from the drop zone.

With the departure of Deacey in September 2022 Andy stayed on as our First team coach whilst new managers failed to stop the bad run of results which by the end of the year saw us bottom of the league with just eight points , all from draws.

Andy was appointed Manager for the remainder of the season and quickly had to trim the size of the squad . He brought in new young players to augment those left from the previous regime and with an average squad of just sixteen team members, plus Assistant manager Steve Roberts, set about the virtually impossible task of keeping us up. We finished the season with twenty-one points but it included some fine performances against much higher placed clubs, along with four, never to be forgotten, wins!

Leeds born Andy, began his career with Rotherham United as a trainee where he stayed for eight years. After a year with Swindon Town he joined Hartlepool United where over seven years he wrote himself into the history books ; he was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year for 2006–07 as Pools went on to finish 2nd to secure promotion to League One and is one of only 16 players to make over 300 appearances for them.
He went on to play for Bristol Rovers, Grimsby Town, Alfreton Town, Whitby Town and Ossett United

We will miss his expertise, his calm approach and friendly nature. A true “Gentleman of The Game”

Andy brought pride back to the team and will always be welcome at Taddy - we cannot thank him enough for all he has done for this Club.

We will keep you posted as we now consider his replacement.
