Long Standing Stalwart Hangs Up His Boots

Tadcaster Albion is sad to report that long time servant of the Brewers, Andy Milne, has decided that due to work commitments and a recurrence of the ankle problem which side lined the defender in 2018, last season would be his final one.

York born Andy joined us in 2014 and, apart from the time out following surgery on his ankle, he has been ever present in the back four.

“Milney” was a member of the team that almost made the FA Vase Final in 2015 when having held Highworth Town to a draw in Swindon in the last eight, succumbed at home in the replay in front of a record-breaking crowd of over 1300 supporters. He was the part of the squad which finally won the Northern Counties East League Premier in 2016 to elevate Taddy to the Northern Premier Division One North.

His performances resulted in him be awarded the Players’ and Supporters Player of the season

His football career started at the age of nine when he joined the Leeds United Academy system and went on to become Captain of their Under 18’s. At the same time, he was capped for Scotland under-18s, - a highlight in his long career.

During a loan spell at Darlington, he made his Football League debut in a 1–0 home defeat against Bradford City, earning him “man of the match”. He sustained a serious ankle injury in the next game and returned to Leeds to recuperate but was released at the end of that season.

Between then and joining Tadcaster, Andy played for Barrow in the Conference (National) league Gainsborough Trinity and Altrincham before signing for FC Halifax. It was at that stage that he was awarded a place at York St John’s University and he moved onto Ossett Town and then Scarborough to be closer to his York home which enabled him to concentrate on his studies. He left with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Physical Education and Sports Coaching

For several years Andy worked for the i2i International Soccer Academy but more recently joined his current company, The Better Health Generation, where he is the National Manager UK of this International organisation.

It will be difficult to replace the quality, strength and experience of “Milney” in the heart of defence and his never to be forgotten “Terry Butcher-esque” episodes where no head wound would ever stop him finishing the match!. In the last two seasons his partnership and understanding in the back four with Ioan Evans was remarkable.

Manager Paul Quinn describes him a “A Role Model” for whom the door will always be open , whilst Chairman Andy Charlesworth regards him as a class player - a great club man who will be sorely missed but welcome at The Global Stadium any time.

Andy has written himself into the history of Tadcaster Albion – Unfaltering, Unswerving and Unflappable - We will miss him!.
