A downpour of rain in the second half of Tuesday night’s fixture resulted in Tadcaster’s tie with Wakefield being stopped by the referee in the 77th minute with the score 4-2.
Tadcaster went into half time 2-0 in the lead thanks to early finishes from Charlie Owen and Miguel Camassa. Wakefield had brought it back to 2-2 through Tom Hinton and Billy Mole but the hosts quickly put themselves back in command with two goals in the six minutes after Wakefield’s equaliser.
An outstanding first-time finish from Oliver Green and a goal-line tap in from Desmond Okoro saw the game hit 4-2 before referee Joe Moss and his assistants had to call off the game. We now await guidance from the FA on the way forward.
Wet weather was already in the air when the hosts kicked off the game but that did not appear to worry The Brewers who started very strongly, immediately putting themselves on-top.
Only seven minutes in, Noel Nfonkeu chased down a long ball and robbed the Wakefield defence on the by-line before laying off to Charlie Owen 10 yards out. He swept the ball in with the help of a small deflection to put Tadcaster in the lead. 1-0.
10 minutes later, Nfonkeu showed his pace again as he broke forward from inside his own half. A lovely chipped through ball found Miguel Cassama in space but his powerful effort rippled the side netting. Nevertheless, redemption was had on twenty-three minutes when Oliver Norman’s shot was spilled by keeper Drew Bremer, to the feet of Albion’s number nine to tap in The Brewers’ second. 2-0.
Wakefield started to get a foot on the ball as the half neared the break but had to thank Bremmer on 38 minutes for a fingertip save from Nfonkeu which looked destined for the top corner.
Wakefield started the second half much more strongly where, after only four minutes, Hinton pulled one back for the away side. 2-1.
The wind and rain had begun to pick up more midway through the second forty-five and it appeared to level the game out with neither side looking particularly dangerous. Nevertheless, an ambitious 30-yard free kick from Wakefield’s Oli Robinson was tipped around the post by Alfie Scales in the Tadcaster goal, and a curling effort just wide by Oliver Norman saw both sides come close but with no reward as of yet.
With the rain now lashing down, a wicked corner in tricky conditions on the seventy first minute, saw the ball fall across the box to where Mole was waiting to tap home and level the tie. 2-2. It was almost impossible to see the celebrations because of how hard the rain was pounding down on the pitch.
Almost immediately Taddy hit back; the ball made its way to Nathan Heaton who played a beautiful pass over the Wakefield defence to the run of Oliver Green. Green played the ball first time, rolling it past the onrushing Bremer on the edge of the box to retake the lead for Tadcaster. 3-2.
It was not long before the hosts scored again; a Tadcaster corner taken by Norman was whipped into the box and headed down to the waiting Nathan Heaton whose shot got a helping slide from substitute Desmond Okoro to ensure it found the back of the net. 4-2.
A break then followed the goal as the referee consulted his linesmen and the managers who appeared to agree an attempt to finish the game there and then. Unfortunately, the conditions worsened and with the ball not rolling at all, full time was called in the 77th minute.
It is anticipated that the FA’s view in the situation will be forthcoming shortly.
Tadcaster are next in action on Saturday away to Beverley Town who currently find themselves in second place in the league. Next Tuesday, Campion are the league visitors to the Young Guns Arena
