Conditions were absolutely horrendous at Queensgate but in fairness, considering the amount of constant rain it had to withstand the pitch held up very well.
The home side started on the front foot as you’d expect and Craig Nelthorpe almost broke the deadlock after just three minutes but the midfielder saw his whipped effort cannon off the crossbar.
The vocal Boro fans were to be even more raucous three minutes later when they did in fact take the lead.
Nelthorpe involved once again as his dangerous in-swinging delivery was unorthodoxly guided into the back of the net off Benny Igiehon’s shoulder.
The early flurry of pressure from the home side relented following the goal and Taddy grew more and more into the cup tie.
Rob Youhill was a constant threat down the right-hand side causing the Dave Merris all kinds of problems delivering a number of crosses into the box, all of which evading Greening and Corner.
It wasn’t a night to be a goalkeeper as the rain continued to chuck it down, however Chandler Hallwood pulled off an outstanding save to deny Nelthorpe.
The experienced midfielder arrowed a blistering strike towards the top corner from all of 35 yards but the former Walsall stopper flew high to his left and tipped over the bar.
Speaking of the dismal conditions, Hallwood was then nearly caught out after a long punt forward took a wicked bounce and almost caught the goalkeeper out but he backtracked enough to tip over the mark.
The closest the Brewers came in the opening half an hour was through that man Youhill, his looping cross kissing off the top of the crossbar.
Two minutes later and Taddy carved out their first clear cut opportunity of the cup tie.
Rob Youhill bent it around the Boro backline to the onrushing Josh Greening who tried to touch it past goalkeeper Jordan Porter but the Scarborough number one carefully collected.
In all honesty there wasn’t a great deal of action in the first half but the home side did spurn a golden chance to double their lead with half-time approaching.
The swirling wind and rain was also making it difficult for defenders to judge the flight of the ball, and this was the case in this instance for Gregg Anderson.
Anderson misjudged a long ball and incidentally helped the ball on to Billy Logan who just had Hallwood to beat but the striker couldn’t sort his feet out and skewed woefully wide of the goal.
Taddy came out in the second half after a refuel and a drying off and were much the better side as Josh Greening and Liam Shepherd both threatened to level the cup tie.
Shepherd drove narrowly over from the edge of the penalty area but the best chance was Greening’s.
Greening drove into the box, cut back inside onto his favoured left-foot which shook off Ellis Humble, opted not to shoot but to cut inside another red shirt before seeing his shoot headed over by Matt Lucid.
Despite the monsoon like weather, the second half was much more of an open affair as both sides looked to get a foothold on the cup tie.
Two minutes after the Brewers almost equalised, Chandler Hallwood was called upon again having to react sharply to get down and push a fizzing shot to safety.
The second forty five had a proper cup tie feel to it with non-stop end-to-end action.
Immediately after Hallwood denied Boro a second Josh Greening raced in behind at the other end but Porter shot off his line to thwart the forward.
Billy Miller’s men began to turn it up a gear as they pushed hard for the leveller and seemed only a matter of time.
Josh Greening was inches away from latching onto Tom Corner’s knock down but a good piece of defending denied the visitors.
This was a sign of things to come however as in the 77th minute the two aforementioned forwards combined and did level the cup tie.
Tom Corner flicked on and Josh Greening exquisitely helped it over the hapless Porter with the outside of his left-foot.
Taddy then looked the most likely to actually go on and win the tie, just like in the last round against Shaw Lane.
A good run and through ball by Youhill teed up Tom Corner from close range but Jamie Price did superbly to intervene.
Corner got in behind once again moments later but Porter charged out to gleefully retrieve the ball.
However, the cup tie took another twist as Scarborough, who were on the back foot for the majority of the second half retook the lead with eight minutes to go.
A corner was swung in and looked to be trapped in between the legs of Jameel Ible who pivoted on the ground with the ball before popping out to Matt Lucid who dug a shot out of his feet which flew into the back of the net.
This was the killer blow for the Brewers who were incensed that the goal stood.
Nevertheless Scarborough did indeed hold on to advance into the Quarter-Final of the Integro League Cup.
