Lumsden’s late strike cancelled out a very early penalty from Charlie Dawes as the points were shared at the i2i Stadium.
Both sides will have a taste of disappointment post-match with the Brewers squandering many chances and dominating throughout but AFC Mansfield were seconds away from seeing out the win.
Simon Collins made just a single change to the team that impressively won 5-1 at Cleethorpes Town a fortnight ago as Jack Walters replaced Aaron Hardy coming in for his first start since mid-September.
Before the match, both sides came together to remember those who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter disaster at the King Power Stadium last week with a minutes silence.
On a blustery afternoon in Yorkshire, it was an end-to-end start with both sides putting together dangerous attacks in the opening minutes.
One of those attacks led to the visitors being awarded a penalty as Ellis Barkworth was adjudged to have nudged Phillip Buxton in the back. Charlie Dawes stepped up and confidently converted the spot kick high into the back of the net.
The Bulls went close to doubling their lead on nine minutes and it was that man again Buxton, he couldn’t beat Ingham from close range after Pat Lindley flicked a corner on.
Taddy kicked on after this point and grabbed control of the contest as Paddy Miller’s free-kick was almost spilled into his own net by Mansfield keeper Tom Crosby.
Their first big chance came soon after in the 17th minute as Billy Whitehouse teed up Jake Rose inside the penalty area but the defensive midfielder fired narrowly over the bar.
The chances began to flow for the home side as Pete Davidson went even closer than Rose two minutes later. The surprisingly quick central midfielder, also known as the Yorkshire Pirlo, was set off on his travels by Aiden Savory and he glided across the turf all the way from the half-way line to the six yard box only to crash a shot off the near post.
With only one team looking like scoring, Taddy continued to push for an equaliser as Savory couldn’t engineer enough power on his header to trouble Crosby before Whitehouse lashed over with his weaker left-foot.
After a number of harsh yellow cards issued to both teams, Crosby was called into action once more for the visitors smartly pushing away Billy Whitehouse’s free-kick.
The Bulls were riding their luck as another glorious chance wasn’t pounced on by Taddy. A superb deep cross from Jake Rose was met by a springing Chris Howarth at the back post but Savory was caught a little flat-footed and couldn’t turn in from a couple yards out.
The final action of the first half saw another chance come and go for Simon Collins’ side as a free-kick found Paddy Miller, who did well to escape his marker, but the defender guided his header wide.
The theme of the game was evident for all to see as the second half kicked off. Taddy were going to throw everything at it, AFC Mansfield were happy to soak up the pressure and potentially strike on the counter attack.
Nevertheless Taddy continued where they left off in the first half as the intensity continued to increase at the i2i. You got the feeling that if Albion could strike early in the second half they’d go on and win the game but credit to the away side who continued to defend their goal effectively.
Man of the match Tom Crosby made two vitally important stops nine minutes into the half, firstly to deny Billy Whitehouse’s ferocious left-footed strike before Paddy Miller bent low towards the far corner only to be kept out with another strong hand.
It was pretty much attack vs defence as another terrific driving run from Pete Davidson saw the midfield scurry past several red shirts into the penalty box before squaring to Jake Rose who was snuffed out.
Top scorer Joe Lumsden, who was admittedly disappointed not to start despite only played twenty minutes at Cleethorpes, was introduced on the hour mark in place of Aiden Savory.
Taddy’s intensity seemed to drop slightly as the second half ticked on and frustration continued to reverberate around the ground. It looked as though they were running out of ideas in a way as tempo slowed right down making it easier for Mansfield to cut off any gaps.
Harry Coates went incredibly close to netting his second goal in successive games as he hopefully flicked on a Paddy Miller free-kick only to see the ball drop just the wrong side of the post.
It looked like it was just going to be one of those days when substitute Lamin Colley had the beating of goalkeeper Crosby only for the header to trickle wide once again.
However, deep into injury time, Tadcaster eventually equalised to salvage a point and down Mansfield who were so close to holding on for the win. With bodies everywhere in the box, Casey Stewart showcased outstanding vision to slide a cute ball into Joe Lumsden who smashed powerfully into the roof of the net from six yards out.
Collins urged his side to get the ball and push hard for a winner and they almost got it when man of the moment Lumsden met a Barkworth cross but the header flew wide.
Point apiece it finished.
