Despite being in total control for the main, Tadcaster Albion suffered a 2-1 defeat at second place Marske United after conceding in stoppage time.

Lamin Colley netted his second goal in four days firing the Brewers in front shortly after the half-time interval but a slight lapse in concentration and an increase in wind speed allowed the hosts to turn it around.

Jamie Owens headed in to level things up before substitute Damien Stevens sprung the offside trap to fire Marske to victory leaving Albion dejected.

Tadcaster made just the one enforced change from Saturday’s victory at Pontefract with Aaron Hardy replacing the suspended Jack Walters.
Simon Collins’ side got off to a promising start by-the-sea pressing from the front with serious intensity and being first to every loose ball. Some clever skill in the corner from Pete Davidson led to Stewart breaking up the by-line only for his cut-back to just evade the lurking Lamin Colley.

The aforementioned Colley was proving to be a real handful for the Marske defence who couldn’t push the strong forward off the ball, the only thing that was missing was an end product.

Taddy were bossing proceedings against the high-flyers and despite Kevin Hayes stinging the hands of Michael Ingham, it only seemed a matter of time until the Brewers rippled the back of the net.

This was arguably their best all-round performance to date without scoring the deserved goals. They really needed to make their dominance count as another great opening came and went. Another dose of brilliant pressing, this time from Pete Davidson, saw the spritely midfielder win the ball back allowing him to drive at the Marske defence only for the through ball to Stewart to be slightly over-cooked.

It continued to be a case of oh so nearly for Taddy as the half drew to a close; first no blue shirts attacked an inviting Whitehouse corner before Rose sprung a counter-attack setting Colley away but the strike from an acute angle was palmed away by Robert Dean.

However Tadcaster did eventually break the deadlock three minutes into the second half when Lamin Colley used his brute strength to win a dual before driving low into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

Fresh from scoring his first for the club on Saturday, Colley continued to look a threat on the front foot as he almost doubled his and his side’s tally soon after when gliding past three yellow shirts before his heavy touch past the defence allowed goalkeeper Robert Dean to pounce upon.

As the swirling winds began to increase, the hosts started to put the Brewers under pressure as the momentum began to swing. Several long-throws were launched into the box before Glen Butterworth came within a matter of inches of levelling proceedings.

Taddy went from looking completely comfortable to on the ropes as Liam O’Sullivan played a neat one-two with Jamie Owens allowing the substitute to drive into the box and get his shot away but Michael Ingham came up trumps getting down low to save well.

The sudden change of events soon saw a change in the scoreline as Marske did in fact draw level with thirteen minutes left on the clock. A simple corner kick was nodded in at the near post by Jamie Owens and United’s tails were up.

It was a frantic finale on the coast as Taddy could and most definitely should have regained the lead on 86 minutes. Billy Whitehouse beat his man with a couple of step-overs before drilling into Casey Stewart who skewed his effort wide of the mark from eight yards.

At this point any side could have won it however, with Albion yet to draw this season, that certainly wouldn’t have been the worst result in the world. Ingham was called into action again in the latter stages with the Northern Irishman doing well to claw Butterworth’s strike out of the top corner.

But then in the first minute of stoppage time, Marske netted the crucial third goal to sink the Brewers who had thrown away all their hard work. Butterworth dinked in behind and substitute Damien Stevens made himself the hero volleying into the back of the net. Both Josh Barrett and Harry Coates were adamant that the forward was offside but the flag stayed down, much to the anger of Albion’s central defenders.
