A fortunate second half goal from Adam Priestley ensured Ossett United maintained their unbeaten start to the season with Taddy left frustrated.

As expected Albion named the same side that thrashed Frickley 4-0 in midweek with the addition of Jake Rose on the bench.
As dark clouds loomed over the i2i Stadium, Taddy started on the front foot continuing where they left off on Tuesday evening. Harry Coates had his hands on his head in disbelief on nine minutes when his towering header was impressively clawed out of the top corner by United stopper Brett Souter.

It was another exciting opening by the Brewers with Billy Whitehouse and Lamin Colley both causing problems down the flanks. That man Whitehouse was getting plenty of joy against former Hyde full-back James Burke only for the final ball to be left wanting.

Tom Corner was back on his old stomping ground and he quickly became the pantomime villain of the afternoon with several skirmishes drawing increasing noise from the terraces. It was a stop start contest all afternoon and both sides were forced into an early change half way through the first half. Full-back Ellis Barkworth couldn’t continue for Tadcaster and neither could Nicky Boshell for the visitors, Chris Howarth and Corey Gregory the replacements.

The aforementioned Corey Gregory was only on the pitch for a matter of seconds before he forced Michael Ingham to make a save. It bounced kindly for the Ossett attacker on the edge of the area who struck well but Ingham stood tall with a fairly straight forward palm away.

As the half grew older, the temperature continued to rise and simmer somewhat close to boiling point it felt. Unfortunately neither side could get into any real rhythm as referee Luke Watson was busy with his whistle, but not his cards.

Sticking with the theme of the officiating, Tadcaster appeared to have a perfectly legible goal chalked off. A Billy Whitehouse free-kick popped high up into the air to which Lamin Colley fairly contested goalkeeper Brett Souter before flicking down and diverting in only for the goal to be disallowed.

At the other end, Gregory definitely gave Ossett an increased spark when venturing forward as his superb ball across the face of goal couldn’t be converted.

Into the second half and Taddy upped their tempo once again as they looked for the opening goal. The approach play was promising with Colley, Whitehouse and Casey Stewart impressing without creating a hat full of clear-cut chances.

The stop-start nature continued in the second half with a number of players requiring treatment, nevertheless it was still the home side who looked the more likely of the two sides. Harry Coates sent a brilliant ball in behind Ossett’s back-line to which Stewart latched onto and looked to be racing clear only for Knowles to recover well poking away.

With twenty minutes remaining, a remarkable passage of play saw both teams squander a couple of very good chances, all in the space of 40 seconds. United threatened first with Colley clearing out of his own six-yard box before Ingham saved the fierce follow-up cross. However Albion broke out immediately with Billy Whitehouse setting Joe Lumsden in behind, who hadn’t had too many opportunities up to this point, but after cutting back inside jinking one way then another, Souter denied the top marksman twice.

Nevertheless it was Ossett who netted the only goal of the game and it was in fortuitous circumstances as Aaron Hardy’s back pass lacked legs allowing for Adam Priestley to pounce upon, round Ingham and roll home.

The goal came at a crucial time in the match knocking the stuffing out of Simon Collins’ side who were beginning to build momentum. The home side pushed hard for an equaliser in the latter stages but the experienced heads of Alex McQuade and James Knowles stayed strong at the back.

The result also came with a double blow for the Brewers as Joe Lumsden picked up an awkward looking injury in added time.
