Tadcaster Albion extended their unbeaten run to six matches after a convincing victory over fellow play-off chasers Droylsden.

Josh Barrett broke the deadlock two minutes before half-time before he added his and Albion’s second on the hour mark.

Billy Whitehouse scored his first goal for the club soon after with a lovely struck free-kick before Chris Howarth got in on the act late on.

The Brewers have a really settled side now and have built up heaps of momentum whilst boasting a fifth successive shut out.

They say you can’t change a winning team and Taddy boss Michael Morton didn’t as he named the same eleven that did the business against Kendal and Glossop.

After the big skip Michael Ingham claimed an early Droylsden corner, centre-forward Aiden Savory came within a lick of paint of giving Tad a seventh minute lead.

A corner kick came out to Savory who’s superbly struck volley thumped off the lower echelons of the left-hand upright.

Striker Sefton Gonzales has a proven track record of scoring goals at this level but he was the creator in the ninth minute after rolling Papprill and crossing into Kilheeney who couldn’t find the desired contact.

Sticking with Gonzales, it was he who had the Bloods’ first effort on target but Ingham patted away the close range shot.

Droylsden were still looking for their first victory of 2018 and they were having plenty of possession in the Tadcaster sunshine without creating any real opportunities to test Ingham.

The first half was largely uneventful in terms of clear cut openings, until the final knockings that is.

Taddy nudged ahead two minutes from the completion of the first half as Pete Davidson cleverly hooked a corner back in and Josh Barrett arrived round the back where he nodded carefully home.

The lead should have been cancelled out right at the start of the second half though as the visitors broke from an Albion corner and a cross dropped kindly for captain Ciaran Kilheeney but he blasted inches wide from the edge of the penalty area.

For as much of the ball as Droylsden were having, you always got the feeling that Taddy were comfortable dealing with everything at the back as well as looking ominous on the front foot.

Aiden Savory leads the line tremendously well week in week out for Tadcaster and he came increasingly close to getting on the scoresheet.

Casey Stewart, who was causing the opposition full-back problems with his trickery time and time again and on this occasion he jinked inside and slid in Savory in behind who poked agonisingly the wrong side of the post.

Droylsden chief David Pace clearly didn’t get the reaction he wanted at the start of the second half as he used all of his available substitutions in the opening ten minutes; Holden, Rouse and Hall all introduced to try and spark a comeback.

It had no immediate impact however as last year’s player of the season Josh Barrett netted his and Taddy’s second of the game.

Billy Whitehouse’s corner was kept alive well by Fraser Papprill to find Savory whose close-range effort was somehow blocked on the line but it came out to Barrett who struck the bobbling ball sweet as you like into the roof of the net. A brilliant hit from the defender.

The Brewers were then dealt somewhat of a blow as Pete Davidson appeared to pull up and incidentally had to be replaced which saw Mitch Langton come on for his debut.

A minute later and it was oh so nearly game, set and match as Jacques Kpohomouh got caught napping by Casey Stewart who nipped in but was then denied by goalkeeper Richie Branagan and the aforementioned defender made amends by blocking Savory’s rebound.

The game seemed to be sharply slipping away from the Bloods as Domaine Rouse’s flick over from Daly’s free-kick wouldn’t have got a mention on any other day, but it was all they had to ponder over.

Having said all of that Taddy did in fact seal the win fourteen minutes from time.

Natural right-footer Billy Whitehouse bamboozled everyone when stepping up to take a free-kick with his weaker left but incredibly the former Leeds United youngster clipped beautifully over the wall and into the near corner.

His reaction said something along the lines of ‘it’s what I do’ as a look of amazement graced the faces of Michael Morton and Simon Collins.

Outrageous audacity from Billy Whitehouse who deserved a goal after putting in an intense shift all afternoon.

They’ll be calling him the Taddy Shaqiri next week!

Albion weren’t done there though as they added further embellishment on 85 minutes after another scintillating move.

Domaine Rouse tried to power beyond Corey Roper but a slightly hefty touch gave Sheppeard the chance to gallivant forward once again and you don’t need to ask him twice.

Sheppeard pinched the ball and got on his skates as he got his head down and simply turned on the turbo.

Running with the ball from half-way in his own half, he continued to power forward into Droylsden’s half before being deliberately fouled by Liam Daly who just couldn’t keep up.

Nevertheless the youngster stayed on his feet and drove all of 60+ yards into the penalty area before not panicking and pulling back perfectly to Chris Howarth who powered in his second goal of the season.

The Brewers march on, into March in excellent form.
