Casey Stewart’s second half header was enough to see the Brewers return to Yorkshire with all three points.

Manager Michael Morton reverted to a back four with Tom Young and Fraser Papprill deputising for Michael Ingham and Andy Milne who are away with the i2i International Soccer Academy.

Former Leeds United youngster Billy Whitehouse was handed his first start for the club.

Tom Young wasn’t given much time to bed himself into the contest in his first league start for the club as he was forced to flick Kurt Willoughby’s cross/shot around the post inside three minutes.

It was an extremely quiet start to the match with both teams simply feeling each other out.

The first real opening arose two minutes short of the half hour mark when Casey Stewart cleverly curled in behind setting Aiden Savory away down the right and his dangerous ball down the corridor was turned just wide by the sliding in Billy Whitehouse.

This sparked the Brewers into a bit more life as they then enjoyed a good spell in the contest.

During this spell, Morton’s side squandered a very good chance to take the lead when a loose dropped invitingly for Billy Whitehouse but he volleyed over from close range.

If Whitehouse’s chance was a very good one then Kurt Willoughby’s chance four minutes from the break was a golden one.

Alex Newby spotted the run of Kurt Willoughby down the middle and he sent the striker running clean through on goal but the league’s hot shot failed to add to his tally as Tom Young stood tall and saved exceptionally.

Not for the want of trying, Willoughby had two more efforts kept out before the half drew to a close.

First he struck a swazz-filled knuckleball free-kick from 30 yards which moved in the air but Young read well.

Then moments later the Blues striker drove inside before firing down the throat of Young who gobbled up well once more.

The half-time whistle came at a good time for Albion who started the second forty five on the front foot and came close to netting that elusive goal seven minutes in.

Corey Roper is still searching for his first goal for the club but he came close when he was given two bites at the cherry on the edge of the box but his left-footed strike was deflected just over the bar.

From the resulting corner, Conor Sellars, who was introduced at the break in place of Pete Davidson after picking up a knock, saw his kick won in the air by Josh Barrett and turned goalwards by Casey Stewart but goalkeeper Chris Thompson thwarted.

The contest started to come alive in the second half as it became an end-to-end affair with both teams working incredibly hard to nudge in front.

And Clitheroe really should have done that ten minutes in when Joe Mitchell’s chip to the back post found a completely unmarked Dimitri Tuanzebe but the pacey winger couldn’t convert from two yards.

Casey Stewart has come into his own since getting his chance in the team and the young forward threatened twice shortly after by heading on target and almost flicking a Josh Barrett header past Thompson.

Back up the other end and Tom Young was having a fine league debut for the Brewers as he reacted sharply to keep out Tuanzebe’s fizzing strike.

Youngsters Fraser Papprill and Harry Sheppeard were also impressing at the back for Albion. Papprill continued to win header after header and 18 year-old Sheppeard stayed strong and provided a constant outlet bombing on down the right-wing.

And this incidentally built the foundations for Taddy to go on and win the game and this is exactly what they did nineteen minutes into the half.

Conor Sellars’ excellent curling free-kick was impressively met by Casey Stewart who glanced home his first league goal of the season – much to his delight.

Brad Carroll went close to equalising for Clitheroe fifteen minutes from time as his thirty-yard ripper swerved agonisingly wide of the post at the last moment.

As darkness began to descend in Lancashire, the home side started to throw everything at Taddy.

Substitute Danny Byrnes did everything right when recycling a corner back into the mixer only for the on-loan Shrewsbury midfielder George Hughes to head over on the stretch.

Fraser Papprill was making just his second league start of the season and the youngster was immense all afternoon in the heart of defence alongside the ever-impressive Josh Barrett.

And Papprill almost set up a second goal for the Brewers four minutes from the end when the towering defender stormed out from the back and into Clitheroe’s half before sliding Aiden Savory in behind but Chris Thompson just managed to beat the stand-in skipper to it.

Nevertheless the one goal was all it took for Tadcaster to take maximum points and make it seven points out of a possible nine in their last three league outings.
