Billy Whitehouse’s fortuitous strike gave Albion the lead half-way through the first half and despite defending admirably, the plucky Prescot forced home two last gasp goals to leave the Brewers with a sour taste, and a long journey home.
Three points for the Brewers would have seen them jump back up into the play-off places but instead it’s unfortunate back-to-back defeats.
It was always going to be an unenviable task going to Prescot on a Tuesday night as manager Michael Morton made two changes bringing Conor Sellars and Jason Mycoe in for Harry Sheppeard and Fraser Papprill.
Cables had the first noteworthy attempt of the evening with Joshua Klein-Davies seeing his strike deflect dangerously towards the bottom corner forcing Michael Ingham to make sure by helping it wide.
Chris Howarth, who reverted back to right-back after a lengthy spell in midfield, squeezed his way cleverly between two amber shirts down the right-hand side before Cables skipper James McCulloch crucially headed away from the lurking Aiden Savory.
However Taddy did in fact take the lead half-way through the first half, in somewhat fortunate fashion it must be said.
Pete Davidson sprayed out to Billy Whitehouse on the right-hand side who skipped beyond Reece McNally beating him all ends up before an unwanted bobble saw the winger’s intended cross fly up into the near top corner.
In the end it was a half of few clear-cut chances as Reece Fishwick’s fizzing effort was straight down the throat of Albion stopper Michael Ingham, who still did well to get everything behind the strike.
Prescot came close to levelling two minutes before the half-time whistle after the Brewers were almost punished for over-playing but Lloyd Dean headed over.
The home side came out resurgent in the second forty five as some good persistent play from James Edgar led to Lloyd Dean turning a great chance over the bar.
Dean then went close again four minutes later as the number ten headed over from a corner kick.
As the play-off contest surpassed the hour mark at Volair Park, Casey Stewart came close to creating a second for the Brewers as his poked effort on target was beaten clear by Ben Barnes before his cross was met by Aiden Savory which looked to hit a Cables hand, nothing given though.
Experienced goalkeeper Michael Ingham did his utmost all evening to keep Taddy in front, and this he was doing in the second half firstly to deny James Edgar from point blank range.
Six minutes later and the big Northern Irishman came up trumps again with two more superb stops.
First he got down sharply at full stretch to his right to push clear before instinctively tipping over Louis Coyne’s powerful header from a corner.
Despite being put under some serious pressure in the second half, Taddy had a chance to seal the three points with four minutes to go.
Another piece of outstanding wing-play from Billy Whitehouse saw him beat his man with ease and cross down the corridor to substitute Harry Sheppeard at the back post but the promising 18-year old couldn’t turn the bouncing ball home from four yards out.
With Michael Morton’s side within touching distance of the victory, Prescot performed one final push which in the end was enough to turn the game on its head.
James Edgar firing in the first before Lloyd Dean sank Albion hearts in the 95th and final minute of the match with his strike deflecting past Ingham into the far corner.
