After a fairly uneventful first half, Tom Corner prodded Taddy in front four minutes from the break before doubling his and his team’s tally in the second half.

George West responded almost immediately for Clitheroe setting up a tense and tight final quarter.

But the Brewers effectively ran the clock down and saw out the 2-1 victory in front of a bumper crowd at the i2i stadium.

Manager Michael Morton kept faith with the same eleven that won at Barnoldswick in midweek as Jason Mycoe and Gregory Hartley continued to deputise for Andy Milne and Michael Ingham.

A minutes silence was impeccably observed prior to kick-off with ‘The Last Post’ echoing around Ings Lane on Armistice Day.

Taddy kicked off the contest on the front foot with Cam Murray turning in the penalty area before seeing his square ball evade both Greening and Corner.

The first effort at goal of the afternoon came from the visitors as Alex Newby’s shot from the edge of the box took a wicked bounce which fortunately struck Greg Hartley in the chest allowing him to claim.

Hartley was called into action again seven minutes later when a combination of Roper and Hunter failed to clear their lines and Brad Carroll flicked goalwards but the Taddy keeper blocked well.

The contest then hit a lull with no goal mouth action in twenty minutes.

With half-time approaching; Brad Carroll superbly blocked a Josh Greening shot before George West struck over the mark.

Despite it being not the best first-half of football, Taddy broke the deadlock three minutes from the break.

Goalkeeper Chris Thompson failed to deal with a Josh Greening corner kick and Tom Corner flicked in his tenth goal of the season with a bit of help from Stephen Rigby on the line.

It was a brilliant time to score for the Brewers but it was close to being one apiece at the interval with Hartley keeping Clitheroe at bay again.

Kurt Willoughby, who is the leagues joint top scorer, almost added another to his tally in stoppage time but his ferociously whipped free-kick was well kept out by Greg Hartley, who took a clattering into the post after pushing to safety.

Half-Time: Taddy 1-0 Clitheroe

The Lancashire side came out in the second half and threatened in the opening ten minutes as skipper Ian Rowlands saw his towering header shovelled off the line by Chris Howarth.

Their best chance of the afternoon arose just two minutes later but this was solely down to a complete mix up between Hartley and Josh Barrett.

Kurt Willougby helped a ball in behind the Brewers’ back-line, Hartley stormed off his line but Barrett can’t have heard the shout and opted to head home only to head past the goalkeeper and give it to Leighton Egan.

Fortunately for Albion, Willoughby couldn’t make contact with Egan’s cross and Alex Newby was denied by Corey Roper and then Greg Hartley who had recovered to get back into position.

And shortly after the hour mark Taddy doubled their lead and netted the all-important second goal.

Aiden Savory’s low cross ran perfectly for Tom Corner on the penalty spot and he ran onto the ball and hooked slickly past Thompson and into the bottom corner.

But just when you thought that the Brewers were firmly in the driving seat, Clitheroe went up the other end and pulled one back immediately.

A flick on from a free-kick was punched only as far as George West who controlled and poked into the empty net to make it game on once again.

As voices on the pitch and on the terraces increased, the visitors missed a great chance to draw level two minutes after scoring their first.

Top scorer Kurt Willoughby received the ball in the penalty area before shifting past Josh Barrett only to blast over the bar.

Clitheroe were enduring their greatest spell of the match and captain Ian Rowlands went close again from a corner kick as his looping header was brilliantly held by Greg Hartley.

It was undoubtedly a much more entertaining match in the second forty five and Tadcaster should have restored their two goal cushion and effectively killed the game off with twenty minutes to go.

Josh Greening flicked a clever ball out to Aiden Savory on the left-hand channel who sized up Robbie Bromley, shifted to the side and fizzed a perfect ball down the corridor to Tom Corner who could only divert over from just a couple of yards.

It looked like the pace on the cross and the speed that Corner was running at made it difficult for the striker to adjust in time.

With the hat-trick chance squandered, Greg Hartley continued to be tested by Clitheroe as the goalkeeper got down well at his near post to hold George West’s neat turn and shot.

Josh Greening almost made sure of the points thirteen minutes from time with what would have been the goal of the season.

Tom Corner’s cross was watched across his body by Greening before acrobatically executing an incredibly difficult overhead kick to which Thompson just managed to hold.

Usually when a team is pushing in the final ten to fifteen minutes they tend to get two or at least one really good opportunity to score but this wasn’t the case in this instance as Taddy stayed strong and defended well.

The game management was also spot on as Michael Morton’s side ran the clock down and took no chances in the closing stages to pick up a much needed three points.

There were a number of good performances from Tadcaster but Cam Murray and Jason Mycoe were certainly two of the stand-outs.

Being an under six foot centre-back, and by some way too, captain for the day Jason Mycoe headed and won absolutely everything at the back and was a real leader all afternoon.

Cam Murray was also outstanding as he put in arguably his best display in a Taddy shirt to date with his positive wing-play and sheer trickiness to deal with.
