Despite a gusty and spirited performance by Tad, Benny Igiehon’s strike in the 95th minute saw Scarborough bow out of Queensgate on a high.

Tadcaster boss Billy Miller made six changes to the weekend defeat to Hyde with the stand-out being Assistant Manager Matt Heath making his first start in over a year.

Jason Mycoe, Piteu Crouz, Fatlum Ibrahimi, Carlos Djalo and Liam Shepherd were also handed starts.

The home side, who were playing their final ever game at the home of Bridlington Town before they move back to Scarborough next season, came close to taking the lead in the opening five minutes.

Benny Igiehon’s pull back to Jacob Hazel was instinctively fired goalwards by the Boro forward but Chandler Hallwood did well to stop the shot.

It was certainly a cagey but well contested opening to the penultimate match of the season with very few clear cut chances on goal.

Jason Mycoe and Piteu Crouz both struck tamely on target for the Brewers with centre-back Matty Turnbull coming the closest for the home side.

On three occasions in the short space of ten minutes, Turnbull got up above his man on corners but failed to hit the target on all.

Half-Time: Scarborough 0-0 Taddy

Taddy continued to look comfortable in the second half as tensions heightened with Carlos Djalo ruffling a few feathers with his physical forward presence.

The midfield trio of Fatlum Ibrahimi, Jason Mycoe and Dan Thirkell were working well together and the latter spurned a good opportunity just shy of the hour mark.

A strong direct run by Ibrahimi lead to the ball dropping invitingly for Dan Thirkell on the edge of the penalty area but he couldn’t keep his shot down firing over the mark.

Benny Igiehon went close to breaking the deadlock moments later when he drove up the by-line and wide of the goal as the raucous Boro fans roared their side on increasingly.

Having said that, centre-backs Matt Heath and Josh Barrett were defending immensely and keeping the Boro at bay.

Taking into account that Heath hadn’t started a game in well over a year, the former Leicester and Leeds defender was extremely impressive at the back.

When Turnbull did guide a header on target twenty minutes into the second half it fell straight into the arms of Hallwood.

Billy Miller’s men were putting in a tremendously spirited and gutsy showing against a
Scarborough side that are gunning for a play-off spot, and this is despite Albion having nine first-team players out and three injured players on the bench.

The home (from home) side began to ramp up the pressure in the final ten minutes as Benny Igiehon threatened again.

Substitute Billy Logan teed up the burley striker who fired powerfully at goal only to be denied by a diving Chandler Hallwood.

With five minutes to go tensions boiled over in the corner with Josh Grant involved in an altercation which lead to a brief scuffle amongst a number of players. Result…..two yellow cards.

With four minutes added on for stoppages, Tadcaster looked to have done enough surpassing the four minute mark.

However, with 95 minutes and 30 seconds on the watch Benny Igiehon turned inside the area and fired into the back of the net to spark mass celebrations for the Boro.

In the end it was massively disappointing for the Brewers who worked tirelessly all afternoon and defended impeccably.

Credit to Scarborough though, they kept plugging away and scored that crucial goal to take them into the play-off places with just the one game to go.
