A Brace From Baker Sets Up A Comfortable Win As The Brewers Thwack Thackley

Tadcaster Albion went top of the league after a dominant 4-0 victory over Thackley on a wet afternoon at the i2i stadium. The win was put in place after just nine minutes courtesy of two superb finishes from Adam Baker. The game was effectively over in the 54th minute as Josh Greening fired into the bottom corner and the win was rubber stamped in the 84th minute as Gregg Anderson scored on his home debut.

Manager Billy Miller made just the one change to the side that thumped Handsworth Parramore last week with Carl Stewart coming in for his first start of the season.

Before the match, everyone in attendance took part in a minutes applause in memory of Joe Lister, a former Tadcaster Grammar School pupil and Tadcaster Albion Junior Footballer who sadly died ten years ago.

Into the match action and it didn't take long for Taddy to kick into gear as they took the lead after just three minutes. Carl Stewart did brilliantly down the left-hand side to leave his man for dead and play it inside to Josh Greening who was patient as he held the ball at his feet on the edge of the box before shifting it one more to Adam Baker who let it run across his body and smash back across goal into the bottom corner.

Minutes later, Jimmy Beadle tried his luck from 40 yards and came very close to catching the goalkeeper off his line however it was 2-0 to The Brewers after just nine minutes and what a goal it was. Jimmy Beadle fired a ball over the top of the Thackley defence looking for the run of Adam Baker. The man between the sticks for Thackley advanced off his line and out to the edge of his area, how he must have regretted this as rapid Baker touched the ball over the top of the goalkeeper and headed first-time into the back of the net to score his 11th of the season, superb skill and technique.

Carl Stewart seemed keen to impress on his first start of the season and he came close to finding the back of the net in the 12th minute. A Taddy corner was cleared out to midfield maestro Jason Mycoe who slotted it down an inside left position to Stewart who controlled and bent a shot goal wards but the stopper pushed it over the top dramatically.

The Dennyboys were finding it extremely difficult to carve out any sort of chance but they did scramble the ball into the back of the net however this was met by the linesman's flag being risen due to a foul in the box.

The Brewers were completely comfortable and they came close to netting a third just after the half hour mark as Liam Ormsby's free-kick bounced off the Thackley wall and into the path of Josh Greening who struck first-time with real venom however the shot was just off target.

A minute later and Greening came close once more as he picked the ball up on the right touchline and drove at the visitors' goal, cut inside and struck narrowly wide again.

Eight minutes until the half-time interval and Thackley got around down the right hand-side but the cross was headed away by Anderson and Taddy could break. Josh Greening played a lovely one-two with skipper Jimmy Beadle, he then passed it out wide to Baker who had the space to drive into down the left and cross into the mixer where Jimmy Beadle went close with an incredible acrobatic effort.

Beadle came close again to getting onto the score sheet but his scuffed shot was just dealt with as the goalkeeper awkwardly pushed it away.

Half-Time: Tadcaster Albion 2-0 Thackley

It should have been 3-0 and game over just a couple of minutes into the second half as full-back Jordan Armstrong did brilliantly to pick out Josh Greening in behind who's shot was well kept out.

Eager to get onto the score sheet, Josh Greening did find the back of the net in the 59th minute to virtually put the game to bed. Greening controlled the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area, shaped up his man, performed three outstanding step overs to wrong foot his man and then fired brilliantly into the bottom corner with real panache.

Jason Mycoe and Liam Ormsby are starting to flourish more and more each game in the centre of midfield, once again they were breaking up play terrifically, passing, moving and hard-tackling, they certainly covered some ground.

With half-hour gone in the second half, substitute Nick Black came ever so close to get on the score sheet. First of all Jimmy Beadle turned into a bulldozer, literally trying to barge his way through the Thackley defence, when this eventually broke down the ball rolled out to Black who curled inches wide with a left-footed shot.

Nick Black then had an even better chance to make it 4-0 as he was sent clean through on goal but his skidded shot was thwarted by the Thackley number one.

It was a matter of how many goals it would end on as we entered the final fifteen minutes on a horrendous day weather wise, the rain was lashing down. Dan Clayton then whipped in a looping cross onto the head of Jimmy Beadle but Tyler D'Cruz in the Thackley goal pulled off an incredible save to tip over the crossbar.

With six minutes to go, The Brewers did finally make it 4-0 as Gregg Anderson found the net, well not literally, on his home debut. Jimmy Beadle floated in a corner to which the beast that is Gregg Anderson headed goal wards and substitute Byron Littlefair cleared off the line however the linesman flagged that the ball did in fact cross the line and the goal was given.

Nick Black looked incredibly hungry, for goals that is as he came even closer in the final few minutes as he rose highest but his header unfortunately dropped just off target.

That is how it finished and Tadcaster go top of the league.
