On Wednesday evening, The Brewers travel to their biggest promotion rivals in Worksop Town.
Tadcaster currently sit at the top of the NCEL Premier Division two points ahead of The Tigers however, The Brewers have played two games more making this fixture even more crucial.
In their two meetings last season, Taddy took away just one point from a possible six against The Tigers and when you are striving for that one promotion spot in the division, the mini-league between the top sides really is pivotal as to how the season pans out. The fixture at Sandy Lane last season was an absolute cracker! The Brewers were down to 10 men and were 2-1 down entering the 96th minute when defender Andy Milne popped up and hooked the ball into the back of the net to send the travelling TSC into pandemonium. The fixture between the two sides at the i2i Stadium was on the final day of the season and in all honesty it was a bit of a dead rubber as Shaw Lane Aquaforce had already won the league however credit to Worksop who won the match 2-1.
Against the four teams challenging with Taddy for the title last season, only five points out of a possible 24 were picked up which obviously isn’t good enough for promotion so that’s where we need to improve this season.
The Tigers have only lost two league games all season, winning the rest and drawing none. The two losses both coincidentally came on their own patch at Sandy Lane as Clipstone beat them 3-2 then Staveley Miners Welfare went there and won 4-3. However they are in great form at the moment winning their last nine matches on the bounce so they will take some stopping on Wednesday evening.
It’s difficult to pick out a ‘one to watch’ for The Tigers as they have several top quality players but you’d be a fool to look past their two top goal scorers in Kyle Jordan and Mitch Husbands who both have 14 and 8 goals respectively.
The Brewers will be looking to come away with something from Sandy Lane to take points off their rivals and to keep top spot but it will be an incredibly difficult game, an intriguing one at that.
Injury News: The only injury concern Manager Billy Miller currently has is with Josh Barrett. The winger injured his hamstring coming on against Goole in the West Riding County Cup a fortnight ago and he is likely to miss the match.
JT Predicts: Worksop Town 3-3 Tadcaster Albion
It will be an incredibly tough but enthralling encounter on Wednesday night, reports from Worksop are claiming there could be over 1000 fans there. I predict 3-3, defence isn’t the best interests of either side so I think it will be goals galore. Black, Beadle and Baker to get the goals for Taddy.
