Tadcaster Albion bounced back from the heavy midweek defeat to Leeds United’s youngsters by putting in a positive performance to draw with South Shields.

The home side started the sharper on a red hot afternoon in Tadcaster as trialist Lamin Colley threatened early on.

The usually excellent centre-back pairing of Dillon Morse and Jon Shaw looked flustered somewhat as Colley pounced on the former’s risky turn to bare down on goal only for the defender to recover well.

Former Football League winger Blair Adams is a new addition to the Shields outfit and he threatened on 20 minutes when soaring past Aaron Hardy into the penalty area but the rushed effort sailed harmlessly over.

Last year’s Evo-Stik North Goalkeeper of the Season Michael Ingham was back between the posts for the Brewers and with the Northern Irishman still to concede in pre-season, he was looking to keep that record firmly intact. Josh Gillies’ tantalisingly dangerous free-kick looked as though it was going to evade everyone and nestle into the far corner but a spring of the hand at the last moment from Ingham clawed it around the post.

Shields went even closer from the resulting corner kick as Dillon Morse rose highest only to see his header clink off the top of the crossbar.
It was a promising spell for the terrifically supported Mariners as Blair Adams’ fierce header was tipped away by that man again Ingham.
Like Tuesday night, Lamin Colley always looked a menace in the final third as he adjusted well to connect with Casey Stewart’s shot but the aim was slightly off.

The aforementioned Stewart was another player who was continuing to cause the opposition problems and when a brilliant quick zinger from Ingham set the unpredictable attacker in behind he could only fire into the hands of the goalkeeper.

The managerial team of Picton & Fenton were not best pleased with their sides showing however just as one bellowed “combinations, combinations” they unlocked Albion’s defence with a lovely passed of play only for Cogdon’s weak cut-back to be comfortably pounced upon by Ingham.

The Trialist stopper for the visitors was certainly more busy in the second forty five as Billy Whitehouse was next to test the keeper after a good dart into the box.

Taddy hit the woodwork themselves shortly after the hour mark and what a sublime team goal it would have been. The patient Brewers kept the ball for 30+ passes before Billy Whitehouse jinked inside and smashed off the far upright after some powerful hold up play by number nine Colley.

Shields had the final opportunity to snatch victory in the dying embers when Adams drove to the byline and fired across goal with substitute Gavin Cogdon just needed some form of contact to divert goalwards from close range.

To summarise, there were chances for both sides across the course of the 90 minutes, both will undoubtedly feel as though they could or should have won it but nevertheless it was an enjoyable pre-season friendly in the scorching sunshine.
