Pre-Season Recap: Tadcaster Albion 2-0 Knaresborough Town
Taddy picked up their first pre-season victory of 2018/19 just hours after their opener as they saw off newly promoted Knaresborough Town at York St John’s Haxby Road.
Team: Lock, Barrett, Mycoe, Miller, Howarth, Walters, Savage, Langton, Baker, Metcalfe, Pugh
Subs (all used): Davidson, Barkworth, Coates, Holmes, Reynolds, Roper, Savory, Whitehouse
Albion controlled the match from the off and could have easily scored more than they did. Paddy Miller saw his glanced header cleared off the line and Joe Pugh turned a great chance wide in the opening ten minutes in York. They did however score their first goal of the season after the half hour mark as new signing Alex Metcalfe raced in behind and poked powerfully into the roof of the net.
Another new face to look out for is defender Harry Coates who joined from Hyde United in the summer. The 22-year-old powerhouse almost opened his account for his new club at the start of the second half. Nobody was getting in the way of him heading the ball but the powerful effort flew just the wrong side of the post.
It was a new-look Taddy playing the second 45 on what was another glorious day, which even included two water breaks, I know, not often you hear that in England. Nevertheless Albion continued to look solid at the back and dangerous going forward as Aiden Savory blazed over from close range after a rapid counter-attack. As aforementioned, Alex Metcalfe scored his first goal for TAFC, Harry Coates almost did and that was the same for left wing-back Jack Walters who’s low drive was superbly kept out by the goalkeeper.
Michael Morton’s side did net a deserved second goal in the final minute of the contest when Billy Whitehouse was impeded in the box and the former Doncaster man stepped up himself and coolly slotted it into the bottom corner.
Another good blow out for the lads especially coming so soon after taking on Sheffield United’s youngsters. More positive performances and all round food for thought for the management team to take into the forthcoming friendlies and beyond.
