Tadcaster rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United’s development team, but it was a performance with plenty of positives to take away from.

The i2i pitch held up incredibly well despite the torrential rainfall throughout the whole of Tuesday and during the contest itself.

Michael Morton's side started on the front foot and almost broke Sheffield's back-line on a trio of occasions, key word being almost though with the flag raised on each attack.

Tom Corner had the first noteworthy effort at goal striking high into the side-netting after Aiden Savory burst in behind and pulled back to the striker.

However the forward should have definitely broken the deadlock six minutes later after squandering a brilliant chance.

Tidy midfielder Pete Davidson clipped a lovely ball in behind for Corner to latch onto and drive in on goal but Marcus Dewhurst in the United goal got down well to keep the match scoreless for the time being.

The visitors grew into the damp pre-season encounter showcasing their impressive passing and moving abilities and they did in fact strike first in the 25th minute.

The Brewers conceded possession cheaply on the half-way line and Jake Wright drove down the left-hand side before cutting in on his right and tucking into the bottom corner.

Half-Time: Taddy 0-1 Sheffield United

Nevertheless Albion were back on level terms inside the first minute of the second half. Conor Sellars pounced on a loose pass and quickly zipped it square to a Trialist who confidently side-footed under the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

As the substitutions started to flow Sheffield retook the lead nine minutes into the second half with Oliver Greaves’ long range ripper pinging in off the post.

Tadcaster almost bounced back immediately with a second equaliser but Tom Corner’s sliding effort at the back post was just kept out by Dewhurst.

Rainy conditions always make it somewhat more difficult to execute the game plan but it is certainly more of a problem for goalkeepers. After just being beaten by a low fizzer, Michael Ingham rectified and brilliantly tipped Harvey Gilmour’s whipped strike onto the post enough for it to avert the danger.

Sticking with the goalkeepers and it was Dewhurst’s turn to make a good save fourteen minutes from time. Piteu Crouz drove at the Sheffield defence before cutting inside and feeding Danny Frost who’s fierce low drive was superbly tipped wide of the mark.

The several changes for Albion injected a certain zest into their football and were playing some attractive stuff. Crouz and Frost were looking lively after coming off the bench and they both came close to drawing level but neither could quite create the half a yard of space required in the box to get the shot away.

The missed opportunity was pounced upon by the young blades as they went straight up the other end and netted a third goal.

An individual error at the back let Jake Wright in on goal one v one with Ingham and the young forward finished well.

Taddy continued to look dangerous and pushed the impressive blades till the very end with Crouz and Frost looking the most threatening.

A good tough test in tricky conditions as all attention now turns to the first league game on Saturday away at Ramsbottom United.
