There were plenty of positives to take for Michael Morton and Simon Collins as Taddy kept Doncaster Rovers to within touching distance.

The newly promoted League One side arrived at the i2i stadium with a full strength squad to choose from after a 9-0 victory over Armthorpe Welfare in the week.

Taddy were without Joel Dixon, Aaron Hardy and Pete Davidson but welcomed defenders Andy Milne and Aiden Savory back into the squad.

Former Brewer Alfie Beestin was back at his old stomping ground and was actually given the captain’s armband which was a nice touch from Rovers boss Darren Ferguson.

It was the visitors that carved out the opening chance after seven minutes when they broke out from a Tadcaster corner.

Last season’s top scorer John Marquis pulled off his man just left of the penalty spot and side-footed firmly on target but Michael Ingham got down well to deny not once but twice.

As expected, the team in the third tier of English Football dominated possession but nevertheless the Brewers were holding their own defensively and were battling courageously.

Captain Andy Milne had to be in the right place at the right time on numerous occasions to hook clear with the ex-Millwall man Marquis lurking around.

Albion may have been made to do a lot of running in the first forty five but for all of Doncaster’s possession, they didn’t create too many clear cut opportunities. Danny Anderson fired over from 33 yards before Andy Williams glanced a header narrowly wide.

The Brewers may not have been allowed many sniffs at goal but they did come close to taking the lead five minutes from the break.

Conor Sellars curled a free-kick right on the money as the towering figure of Tom Corner guided agonisingly wide of Ian Lawlor’s goal.

Half-Time: Tadcaster Albion 0-0 Doncaster Rovers

Darren Ferguson made ten changes at the break including forward Liam Mandeville whereas Taddy made just the one change with Aiden Savory coming on for his debut in place of Josh Barrett.

The aforementioned Mandeville had a golden opportunity to get Donny on the board three minutes into the half.

Gary McSheffrey picked out the forward who just had Ingham to beat but, we all know that is easier said than done.

The former Northern Ireland stopper stood tall and brilliantly kept out Mandeville from point blank range.

Rovers’ second half goalkeeper Marco Marosi clearly wanted to get in on the action and pulled off a stunning touch seconds later.

Josh Greening did superbly well to bring the ball out of the sky and flick through the defender’s legs before curling a shot which looked destined for the top corner only for Marosi to fly to his right and get the slightest of touches to push wide.

You can’t afford any lapses in concentration against Football League sides because they will punish you and that was what happened in the 57th minute when Doncaster broke the deadlock.

Gary McSheffrey drifted off his man to the back post and was picked out perfectly leaving the veteran with a straight-forward left-foot volley finish leaving Ingham with no chance.

And it could have been a quick-fire double if it wasn’t for Ingham brilliantly keeping Tommy Rowe out.

With Rovers slowly grinding down the tiring Brewers, they were given a chance to double their lead from the spot after Josh Grant brought down A Trialist.

Liam Mandeville stepped up with twenty minutes to go and sent Ingham the wrong way coolly driving into the net.

Darren Ferguson continued to bellow instructions to his side ordering them to keep the ball with Morton ensuring his side kept it tight with the friendly winding down.

Ingham was called into action again by Rowe as his power blaster stung the hands of the former York City keeper.

Taddy’s best chance however came in the final minute when substitute Piteu Crouz picked the ball up 40 yards out, turned on the turbo and burst beyond three red shirts before striking firmly down the middle only to be terrifically denied by Marosi.
