On Tuesday night Tadcaster Albion advanced into the last four of the West Riding County Cup with a convincing victory over North West Counties side Silsden.

Taddy boss Billy Miller made six changes from the defeat to Colne with Gary Stevens, Jordan Armstrong, Rob Youhill, Fatlum Ibrahimi, Liam Shepherd and Conor Sellars all returning to the starting line-up.

The cup exploits handed the Brewers a brilliant chance to get a win under the belts and build confidence before heading back into league action at the weekend against Colwyn Bay.

The on-loan Alfreton defender Tom Allan almost broke the deadlock and calmed the nerves in just the third minute. The towering defender is a constant menace from set-pieces and Allan got on the end of Liam Shepherd’s corner heading into the ground and onto the crossbar.

The rebound fell back into the danger zone where Jono Greening and Conor Sellars tried their utmost to force over the line but Josh Kaine flicked clear.

Taddy certainly started on the front foot against North West Counties Division One side Silsden but it was the visitors who drew first blood in the eighty minute.

Josh Barrett looked to ease William Storrie off the ball but the Albion defender was adjudged to have done so with excessive force and the penalty was given.

Mark Trueman stepped up for Silsden and coolly stroked left-footed into the bottom left corner.

The Brewers soon retook control of the cup tie and deservedly equalised in the twentieth minute.

Conor Sellars’ precise dink was perfectly measured to beat Joshua Eastwood and fall kindly into the path of Carl Stewart who showed off his predatory instincts by controlling and turning past Callum Jakovlevs.

Mark Trueman looked to be the driving force for the visitors as he wound up his lethal left-foot once more but couldn’t hit the target from 34 yards on this occasion.

Taddy were playing some neat football in the first forty five and they turned the cup tie on its head in the 27th minute.

Full-back Jordan Armstrong drove in on goal down the right-hand side before pulling the trigger and forcing Jakovlevs into a good save.

However, Jakovlevs’ save bounced off the head of Jacomb and kindly for Conor Sellars who acrobatically arrowed into the top corner off the post putting Taddy in the lead.

Taddy continued to dominate the remainder of the first half and came close to a third goal right on the stroke of half-time.

Jordan Armstrong whipped in a curling cross from the right-hand side to which Conor Sellars rose highest but not quite high enough.

Carl Stewart waited behind the leaping Sellars and after the short attacking missed the ball, Stewart nonchalantly directed his header goalwards which flicked off the outside of the post.

Miller’s men continued to stamp their authority in the second half and should have further established their lead on the hour mark when Carl Stewart was picked out brilliantly by Rob Youhill but Stewart could only fire wide of the mark.

Four minutes later though and Taddy did have a two-goal cushion. Silsden keeper Jakovlevs did well to originally deny Conor Sellars one v one but forward Carl Stewart followed up and hammered into the back of the net.

Albion’s class was clearly shining through in the second half as Silsden struggled to cope with the fast fluid attacking play and if 3-1 was a slightly susceptible scoreline, 4-1 was tie over.

Just a mere two minutes after the third goal, the fourth was scored and you can’t keep this man out of the County Cup.

After his sublime hat-trick including an overhead kick in the last round, Jono Greening was back in the goals in the same competition.

Greening ever so coolly controlled the ball with his studs before volleying sweetly into the top corner leaving Jakovlevs with no chance.

The floodlights did their best to disrupt the contest with one of each trip flicked off but fortunately visibility wasn’t a serious issue and the referee carried on with less than twenty minutes remaining.

Josh Greening, Liam Shepherd and Josh Barrett all went close to adding further gloss on the victory in the final stages who comfortably advance into the last four of the County Cup.

Taddy will now travel to Brighouse Town in the Semi-Final whereas Farsley Celtic take on Bradford Park Avenue in the other tie.
