Taddy On For The Double

It was difficult to know what to expect going into this match as The Brewers were crowned Champions on Thursday and obviously celebrated on Saturday (throughout the night). However we got a thoroughly enjoyable cup tie for the final game of the season at the i2i stadium.

Taddy started positively with wide-man Adam Baker testing goalkeeper Trenngry on a couple of occasions inside the first four minutes.

It was a fairly even start in the first half hour with both sides creating good chances to take the lead but failing to find the back of the net.

Albion Sports were probably just edging it but only by a fraction, however they did take the lead in the 36th minute. Lewis Morgan used one touch to turn and a second to rifle into the bottom left-hand corner. Having said that Gary Stevens won't have been thrilled with it after failing to push clear.

Taddy then took the game to the visitors as they pumped up the pressure and right on half-time they were back on level terms. Jonathan Greening's out-swinging corner was met by the leaping Tom Corner who guided into the far corner.

Into the second half and the home side really began to take it up a notch as they looked to reach the League Cup Final and be on course for the League and Cup double.

With nearly an hour played, the watching on Taddy fans, staff and players were bemused not to see the referee point to the penalty spot. Tom Corner ran clear down the right-hand side and as Trenngry charged off his line, Corner touched it past and it looked for all the world that the Sports stopper had upended the forward but nothing was given.

With sixteen minutes remaining Tad's pressure reaped a reward as they took a 2-1 lead. Adam Baker's deep cross to the back-post from the left wing was nodded across goal by Tom Corner to Josh Greening who had the simply task of tapping in his 27th goal of the season.

Albion Sports had one last big opportunity to take the tie into extra-time but Stevens did superbly to scoop onto the crossbar and the danger was cleared.

In the end it was a deserved victory for The Brewers who will play Cleethorpes Town in the final at Garforth Town on Saturday May 14th.

Taking into consideration the long weekend's celebrations, Tadcaster actually played extremely well and looked massively up for it throughout and the terrific result showed that.
