Ten man Tadcaster Albion crashed out of the Emirates FA Cup to North West Counties side Colne in a match which was hugely influenced by the referee.

Three penalties, four goals and a red card were witnessed in an action packed first half which saw the man in the middle in the firing line.

Manager Billy Miller made three changes to the side that beat Staveley Miners Welfare on Tuesday with George Conway, Josh Barrett and Dan Clayton dropping down to the bench with Nick Black, Jimmy Beadle and Adam Baker in from the start.

Before the game football joined together to pay our tributes to those that lost their lives in the Shoreham Air Tragedy which was respected by every single person in attendance at the i2i stadium with a minutes silence.

Into the match and it started off in quite a tasty fashion with a few naughty challenges here and there however it didn't take Taddy long to stamp their authority as they broke the deadlock inside four minutes. Josh Greening has accumulated many assists already this season due to his high quality set-pieces and this was no different as he lofted in an inviting free-kick to which the towering figure of Matt Heath smashed a header into the top right hand corner.

The Brewers were in control for the opening 15-20 minutes there's no doubt about that, dominating possession and limiting Colne to very few sniffs at Stevens' goal. Adam Baker was looking extremely lively for the home side playing on the left wing, causing problems with his blistering acceleration and pace and had a good chance on 14 minutes. Baker stormed away from his marker, cut back onto his favoured right foot and struck a shot goal wards but didn't get the desired contact on the strike and was easy for Chris Thompson in the Colne goal.

The visitors had to reshuffle slightly shortly after as danger man Jay Hart pulled up with a niggle and had to replaced by Kenneth Naylor.

Baker's direct and powerful dribbling continued to cause Colne problems as they couldn't handle him or catch him for that matter and 26 minutes in he once again breezed past a red shirt and exploited the space to which then he halted and teed up Jimmy Beadle who curled a shot just over the crossbar.

Just a minute later and Colne were given a golden chance to get back into the cup tie, with a helping hand from the referee that is. The ball was played into Ben Allan who simply held the ball at his feet with his back to goal and was in a tussle with Matt Heath and the referee deemed it to be a penalty kick, even the red men seemed somewhat surprised. With that being said prolific goal scorer Danny Boyle stepped up and smashed the ball right down the middle to level things up.

However every time Taddy concede you always get the feeling that they are going to go up the other end and reply immediately, and they did just that once again, with the referee evening up the penalty count. Jimmy Beadle was adjudged to have been tripped but again it looked soft, albeit Liam Ormsby stepped up and converted the spot kick expertly as ever.

The Brewers looked to kick on from this and at least hold the lead going into the break however that didn't happen and with just nine minutes left of the first half the cup tie took a huge twist, not in the favour of Taddy though. Colne strung many passes together before entering Albion's box and I think it was Chris Anderson who took it past goalkeeper Gary Stevens and blasted goal wards only to be met by the hand of Jordan Armstrong. The referee took a moment to assess the situation and decided that it should be 2-1 (To Colne on Penalties that is) with the extra bad news of Armstrong being shown a straight red card for his last man handball denying a clear goal. Boyle stepped up again and side-footed into the bottom right hand corner this time to make it a desmond (2-2).

Right on the stroke of half-time and Gary Stevens was called into action to keep the scores level as Allan's decent strike had to be well saved by Stevens high to his right.

Half-Time: Tadcaster Albion 2-2 Colne

The second half started polar opposite to the first, the game had died in all honesty. Quieter, slower and slightly stale as the away side kept possession comfortably with Tadcaster reshuffling to two banks of four and getting men behind the ball to try and frustrate the North West Counties side. With that being said the home side still looked threatening on the counter attack and it was Adam Baker again four minutes into the half, bursting down the left and cutting back inside and striking hard to which Thompson kept out well.

Gary Stevens hasn't had a lot to do in the past few matches in goal for Taddy which I am sure he would be delighted with but this half he was to be much busier. Just past the hour mark and Stevens pulled off an incredible point blank save to keep the two sides level. Colne got in behind and a cross which was simply squared to Ben Allen looked like he couldn't miss from just seven yards out but Stevens spread himself and made himself big as possible and somehow blocked Allen's shot.

Colne were patient and kept passing it around and in no hurry and credit to them they took the lead in the 73rd minutes and they took it in style. Full-back Ben Hoskin received the ball 30 yards out, was not closed down and he struck it sweetly into the top left corner to give the Lancashire side that crucial lead to which with a man advantage looked like that was enough to see them through.

Colne wrapped things up with two late goals, firstly Danny Boyle squared to Allen and this time he didn't miss as he made it 4-2 and then in the 90th minute substitute for the Brewers Dan Clayton gave the ball away in his own half which allowed Boyle to again simply square to Chris Anderson to tap in and send them into the next round of the FA Cup.

Full-Time: Tadcaster Albion 2-5 Colne

Credit to Colne, played some good stuff and we wish them the best of luck for the Cup and their overall season.

And as for Taddy, disappointing to go out of such a magical competition but the red card changed the game and now we can solely focus on the league with the Vase to come at a later date.
