Trafford finished in ninth place last season with 61 points in the Northern Premier West – not so different from Taddy with our sixth place finish on 66 points in the East. So that alone suggests this is going to be a tight encounter!
Moreover our visitors were the winners of the league cup for all divisions, beating Farsley Celtic 2 – 1 in the final – and the Celts were promoted last season to the Vanarama National North
They are based in Flixton, near Urmston, Greater Manchester which is roughly 55 miles from Tadcaster. The club is relatively new having been formed in 1990 as North Trafford. They retain their nick name of “The North” from those early days. They have played at “Shawe View” from day one.
Their home kit is predominately white, the away kit black and yellow, so they may well opt for the former to avoid a clash with our strip.
They too have played higher ranked clubs in the pre-season – Altrincham, Chester, Curzon Ashton and Scarborough to mention a few. So, they are really ready for the start of the league.
Curtis Woodhouse View;
We have watched Trafford a couple of times recently. They are a very good football side; they love to get the ball out, pass it through the thirds and I think they will do really well this season.
It’s going to be a really good but tough game for us but we go into the season full of confidence following the success of the pre - season matches. The main thing for me last Saturday was to get through with no injuries and we did that so we are at full strength at the time of writing.
