Jake Day Thunderbolt Seperates the Two sides

Given the Monsoon like conditions throughout the day, there was concern this warm-up match would be cancelled but the pitch had coped well with the deluge of water and it was game on although there would inevitably be many slips and sliding tackles

It was a chance for Curtis Woodhouse to experiment with his new squad and there were starts for Brad Riley and Henry Rollinson. Michael Ingham and Ioan Evans were still on the injured list but both are nearing fitness

It was a bright start from the visitors but the first real chance fell to Thackley’s Jack Normanton who having beaten the offside trap, shot wide of the far post from an acute angle. Michael Clancy ,again between the sticks for Taddy, was first to a dangerous long free kick, saving with his legs as he rushed off his line.

Nathan Keightley was offside from a glorious through ball from Owen Marshall on 10 minutes but although Tadcaster were getting well forward , chances in the final third were few.

The “Dennyboys” looked dangerous on the break and Nicky Mathews had a one on one with Clancy on 26 minutes but the Taddy keeper was first to the ball.

The Brewer’s break through arrived on the 29th minute when Jake Day got on the end of a terrific through ball from Brad Riley and unleashed a thunderbolt beyond Luke Wilson - the big man’s sixth goal in as many games

Day was again close just before the half time whistle when his back header from a Kain Rogerson in swinger was wide of the far post

0 -1 at the interval was a fair reflection of play

The home side looked more dangerous as play re commenced but Keightley saw a goal bound effort deflected whilst Marshall was a whisker away from converting Rogerson’s cross.

On the hour mark Casey Stewart, Alex Wiles and Donald Chimalilo replaced Day, Riley and Mycoe with Keightley leading the front three.

Stewart tried an audacious shot from 6 yards from a seemingly impossible angle but Wilson had positioned himself well and as the hosts broke on 65 minutes, Clancy was out quickly to avert the danger. It was the Tad shot stopper again 5 minutes later punching clear as Thackley looked for an equaliser.

With the rain pouring down, Jordan Hines header from a free kick, was wide and Ben Grech-Brooksbank shot the wrong side of the upright . Taddy had the final thrust as Stewart was thwarted by Wilson but the incoming Keightley could not properly connect with the spill and the keeper made another reflex save

A good run out for both teams - a narrow win but a clean sheet.

Next Tuesday Sheffield FC visit the i2i Stadium, KO 7.30 pm, whilst on Friday it is the annual meeting at home with Tadcaster Magnets, again at 7.30 pm
