Magnets Attract Two Hat Tricks

Our Eighth pre-season game saw the annual match with neighbours from the York Premier league, Tadcaster Magnets at the i2i Stadium. It was the last outing for Owen Marshall before his move to the United States – he was handed the Captain’s arm band for the occasion.
Jason Mycoe was missing following his move to North Ferriby whilst Nathan Keightley had decided to return to Penistone Church FC. Curtis Woodhouse started the match in mid field and Michael Ingham returned after injury.

On 8 minutes Kain Rogerson launched an in-swinging corner and Lebrun Mbeke rose highest but the header crashed against the upright. Almost immediately, however, one of the trialists put a long low through ball to Jake Day how calmly slotted home for Taddy’s first goal and continued his record of scoring in every pre-season match this campaign. 1 – 0.

On 18 minutes Brad Riley, enjoying some space on the left flank, slipped a pass through to Day who turned 180 degrees before driving in his second of the night. 2 – 0.

The “Beast from the East” got his hat trick moments later in a move involving Marshall, Rollinson and Mbeke with the big man applying the finishing touch. 3 – 0. That took Day’s contribution in the warm up games to 11 goals in 8 outings!

It could so easily have been four, just minutes from the break, as Day collected Ingham’s long clearance but his shot was saved and Rollinson’s follow up was cleared off the line.

On half time Matt Heath, Donald Chimalilo, Jake Rose, Casey Stewart and JP Vass replaced the two trialists, Day, Mbeke and The Manager!

As the second half gathered pace Chimalilo dinked the keeper but the ball was scraped off the line and Stewart hit both upright and bar. Chimalilo shot from 12 yards out with such force that it cannoned off the keeper before he could raise his hands to make a save
.
On 55 minutes Vass found Chimalilo in the box and he powered in his first goal of the night. Two minutes later he made it 5 – 0 after a one on one and on 67 minutes he too completed a hat trick ending a pulsating run down the left with a chip over the keeper.6 – 0.

Casey Stewart had his heels clipped as he burst into the area – Chimalilo took the penalty for his fourth and The Brewers Seventh goal .

With the referee looking at his watch, Henry Rollinson finally got on the score sheet with another one on one, no more than he deserved for his relentless running on and off the ball. 8 – 0

The Magnets never stopped running and , notwithstanding they ply their trade three steps below the Brewers, gave the game everything up to the final whistle.

Taddy welcome Bamber Bridge from the Northern Premier League on Saturday 10th August for their final pre season game (KO 3,00 pm) before their first league match at home to Trafford on the 17th
