This week we caught up with two of our most loyal followers; Olly Lemm and Matt Greaves to ask them about all things TAFC.

1. How did you first start following Tadcaster Albion?

Olly: “I first watched Taddy over 20 years ago as a kid with my Mum's partner, however more recently it was because my brother and a few friends are avid football fans and would come down every now and then. It was Matt (who you will always see me there with) that convinced me to come down to a game one day, I was bored so thought why not!”

Matt: “The first time I went down to watch Tad was against Leeds United in a pre-season friendly and was impressed with the performance so I started to go watch when I couldn't make it to the Leeds games and on a Tuesday night.”

2. What was your first ever game?

Olly: “I've had to look back through the NCEL fixtures but I think it was during the 2015 season when we beat Brigg at home 5-0, pretty good first game I'd say!”

3. Who did you support beforehand and what made you start to follow the Brewers on a permanent basis?

Olly: “I didn't really support anyone, I had very little interest in football at that point. Now I have a season ticket and try to get to every home and away game that I can. I think it was the quality of football, professionalism of the players, club and media team that surprised me which got me hooked.”

4. Having watched the vast majority of games this season, what have you made of our second year in the Evo-Stik with it being Mikey & Si's first campaign in charge?

Matt: “This season started with some very promising results and the team were playing some superb football. A few injuries then hampered our side but Mikey and Si brought in players from the U21’s like Casey [Stewart] who has been outstanding and has become a first team regular just like Harry Sheppeard.”

Olly: “It started off very much like the first season, a lot of ups and downs and inconsistency. That being said, it was Mikey and Si's first season with the team and nearly half of the players were new to the club.

Since then it has been excellent, the team plays better together, there's a lot more consistency with the results and lots of positives, South Shields away and more recently Bamber Bridge at home spring to mind.

Mikey and Si clearly know what they want and how they want to play, it has shown in results and in the post-match interviews and I look forward to seeing what they can all do next season.”

5. What would you say to football fans who have only dipped their toes or have never even tried giving Non-League Football a go?

Matt: “If you haven't watched Non-League Football then give it a go, the quality of football is better than you think and all the fans are welcoming not just at Tad but at other clubs too. Even when we have had "more flags than fans" at away games people always talk to you and have a laugh.”

Olly: “Give it a go! The standard of football is excellent, it's cheap to get in, it's family friendly, the food is brilliant (cheers Anna!) and the beer is cheap!”

6. Looking at the current standings, do you think that Taddy could sneak into the play-offs?

Olly: “Absolutely! All the remaining games are going to be tough, however we're going into the Radcliffe game with a week's break. They've had Scarborough on Tuesday, Trafford on Thursday before our Saturday game at home so that’s a tough week for them.

I would hope with our recent form we will have enough to come away with points from both Ossett teams and Atherton and finish the season at home with three points against Mossley.”

“Of their remaining games, Trafford have four away so that's a tough end to their season and Colwyn have some really hard games too with the top three teams still to play so there's every possibility we can gain enough points to nip past Colwyn and Trafford.”

Matt: “If Tad can keep the run of good form going and other results go our way then the play-offs are definitely possible for this season. However it is going to be a very busy few weeks so keeping players fit is imperative to this.”

7. Who are your favourite Taddy players; past or present?

Olly: “That's a difficult one as there's so many. I think my favourites to watch at the moment have to be Pete Davidson or Casey Stewart, both incredibly skilful players. I've been to quite a few of the U21 games before Casey featured as a core member of the first team, he stood out then and still does now (or is that the pink boots?!).”

“As for a past player, I think as a bit of a fan favourite Carl Stewart was always entertaining to watch, he could bang goals in for fun and was a laugh doing it.”

Matt: “There have been plenty of great players in my time from the likes of Jono Greening and Jimmy Beadle to the fiery Carl Stewart. The current players that I enjoy watching most are Billy Whitehouse and Conor Sellars.”

8. Where would you like to see the club in 5-10 years’ time?

Olly: “I would like us to get to the National League North in the next five years. Two promotions in that time is not unreasonable and would be a good fit for a town of this size. Depending how they get on, a derby with York City would be one hell of a game!”

Keep up the great support lads!
