This week we spoke to Casey Stewart about the upcoming Evo-Stik East League season.

After breaking into the first-team back in January, Stewart went on to shine scoring nine goals and catching many an eye in the final few months of the season. This led to the young forward going on trial with recently promoted National League side Harrogate Town.

“It was a great experience for me training full-time with some very good players. I learnt a lot there, obviously it’s that little bit sharper so you have to be that bit brighter.”

“It’s slightly more physical as well but you can’t hide, you have to constantly want the ball. I felt that I could still do it at that level and higher though but obviously it didn’t work out.”

“Yes I was frustrated not to be a part of their plans, a bit because of the way I performed and trained, I was expecting to sign because I thought I did really well.”

“But for me it’s not really a set-back because if I’m not in their plans that’s only their opinion on me.”

As Harrogate decided not to sign Stewart, he returned back to the Brewers looking to kick on once more.

“I’m delighted to be back at Tadcaster, it’s a great club that is on the up and going places.”

“This season I want to get at least 20+ goals and plenty of assists (15+) too. For me though it’s not just about myself doing well it’s about the team being successful. I believe we can get promotion if we start the season well but we have to make sure we stick together.”

Stewart is not just targeting a successful campaign in the league as he sets his sights on a cup run.

“I also want to do very well in the FA Cup as it’s a massive competition and has all the best teams involved.

Taddy welcome Shildon to the i2i Stadium next Saturday 25th August in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

“I’m buzzing for the new season to start, I can’t wait to get going. It’s been a very long pre-season and seeing most teams start has been frustrating to watch.”

Stewart along with Harry Sheppeard, now at Sheffield United, broke into the side from the U21’s at the same time and states the importance of youth development.

“It’s great that we integrate youth into our first-team as we’ve shown we can do well. I love that a lot of the fans like me too as I love the club and everyone involved with it.”

“I feel like I’ve come on a lot this pre-season and I can only get better. I’ve got a lot more to bring and there’s a good feeling about the squad this year and what we can achieve.”

“We’ve got a great bunch of lads this year, everyone has been working hard and pushing each other. Everyone has to fight for their position because of how many good players we have. We’ve also brought in some top quality players who will undoubtedly strengthen us.”

“We are all on the same path wanting to achieve the same goals.”
