Last night Tadcaster Albion made it five league wins on the bounce after an excellent 5-1 win at home to Retford United.

Speaking earlier today, Brewers boss Paul Marshall said he was delighted with the result, but felt there was still plenty to work on after a weaker second half performance.

Paul said: “It wasn’t bad, was it? They’ve added another 5% onto where I think they are in terms of their potential, so we’re at 85% now.

“We just didn’t perform in the second half. It was an outstanding first half, but they let us down in the second half.
“The intensity was really good and an early goal always helps. Josh Greening was outstanding. He’s on an unbelievable run. Everyone laughed when I told him last night to go out and get another hat-trick. So he went out and got four!

“I’m chuffed to bits for Josh. He’s showing everybody what he can do, and he’s already proving to be an excellent signing.

“Overall the team shape and the dynamic of the team was brilliant. A lot of credit must go to Mikey Morton and Simon Collins for the way they’re coaching the lads. The players are really starting to understand what we’re trying to achieve.

“It’s always difficult when you have a good first half. At half time I said to everybody: “This is what good teams do. They go out and play the second half in exactly the same way.” But sadly we just didn’t do it.

“It was a strange feeling afterwards. On the one hand we won 5-1 which is outstanding, but then you think about the second half when we weren’t really that good.

“So we’ve definitely left something to work on which is really good. We’ll be looking at that in our next game.”

The Brewers take on 12th placed Maltby Main in their next game at the i2i Stadium on Saturday.

Paul said: “I’m going to watch Maltby Main play Heanor Town tonight. It’ll be good as we play Maltby on Saturday and then we play Heanor in a few weeks’ time.

“I know the manager Micky Norbury. He used to play with me at Goole Town. He was a very good player and will have the team fired up.

“I tried to sign their striker Brian Cusworth at the start of last season. I noticed he scored against Retford United last week. He’s always a handful.

“Everybody says we are the form team and we should win easily, but it doesn’t always work like that.

“We’ve got to earn the right to beat them. If we don’t earn the right, we won’t win. We’ve got to make sure we work hard to win the three points.

“I’d like to also thank all the fans who came out in their numbers last night. Their support really gives the players a lift. The singing was particularly loud last night and we can really feel the momentum starting to build. We hope this will continue on Saturday, and for the rest of the season.”
