Hardy Enjoying Run And Insists Confidence Is High

This week we spoke to defender Aaron Hardy on last week’s win at Kendal, penalties, play-offs and Dennis Irwin.

“We were very pleased to come away from Kendal with the three points last week. I thought we thoroughly deserved it too just on pure desire and work-rate.”

“All the lads put a shift in and we had a little bit of quality in patches too.”

“It was always going to be difficult on a pitch like that and the way we want to play but we said before the game it was going to be a battle and a nasty game so we had to be ready for that and I thought we certainly were.”

Full-back Hardy was the match winner as he took responsibility and dispatched the spot kick just before half-time.

“It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet and especially when it’s a winning goal. It’s not often it happens.”

“It was a good feeling as it was my first goal for Taddy but to be honest I thought Savs or the Yorkshire Pirlo were going to grab the ball but when I saw they weren’t I had no hesitation.”

“I’ve always been confident from 12 yards and this time was no different. I was on them at Farsley last year until James Walshaw bullied me off them. I was prolific from the spot in the 2015/16 campaign.”

“The run we are on at the moment is a good one but it can still be better. We can’t rest on our laurels, we’ve achieved nothing yet.”

“We all know our targets as a squad and with the confidence we have gained from this run, we just need to keep going one game at a time.”

“It’s been down to every man putting a shift in working really hard for one another and then the quality will always show if the basics are done.”

Today’s contest sees two play-off hopefuls collide which can only mean for an interesting encounter.

“Obviously if you look at the table you can see it’s a big game but from our point of view it’s just another game that we need to tick off.”

“That’s the mentality we need to have and go into it like we have been doing with other games recently.”

“For the fans it’s great as we have given them a bit of excitement that we didn’t do earlier on in the season and hopefully we can get a few down as there support really does help.”

“The fans help is massive, there support really does help, especially at home where we want to be dominant.”

“It’s no secret in football that the more you win and are doing well as a team, that transmits to and through the fans so hopefully we can keep the run going and get even more fans into the ground coming up to the final push.”

“Winning is a habit, just like losing. You could see earlier on in the season that we struggled to find that consistency and the confidence was up and down.”

“The run we are on now, confidence is high and we are enjoying the games and looking forward to each one that comes, especially when edging closer to the play-offs.”

“On the flip side of that we know it’s not going to last forever and the important thing is when it does come to an end we need to bounce back quickly and go on another one.”

Hardy was branded as ‘Taddy’s Dennis Irwin’ by assistant manager Simon Collins after scoring the set-piece.

“Haha I don’t mind it. He was a bit of a legend so I’ll take that. It’s a strange one as I’m a Leeds fan so obviously being nicknamed after a red my old man isn’t best pleased. Think I’d prefer Cafu if I’m being honest but Dennis is a close second.”
